Santa Monica Latest City to Fight to Get Circumcision Ban on Ballot {ParentDish}
Jun 6th 2011 7:08PM All you women who don't want an uncircumsized lover-better stick to older U.S. men-they are about the only ones in the world, in the history of mankind-who have been routinely circumsized!
The govt. should get out of medical decisions altogether, but as long as they are paying the tab, I bet circumcisions will be eliminated as a cost-cutting measure. I take that back-the AMA will never let it go-witness how they are forcing C-sections on women who would be able to have a VBAC if not for the AMA's control of Congress.
Crying as a Baby May Lead to Lifetime of Behavioral Problems {ParentDish}
Apr 26th 2011 4:49PM The researchers have it backwards. Of course try to soothe your baby, but understand that ADD is mostly GENETIC, which means it is present from conception. Therefore, parenting has little effect on it. So don't get your panties twisted believing you are at fault if you can't make your baby be neurotypical, and don't let others' judgemental comments get to you. Treat the symptoms as they come up, and try not to worry too much about the future. That's what I've learned, as an ADHDer mother and spouse to ADDers.
US map of stereotypes {Gadling}
Apr 12th 2011 1:54AM It's not the illegals that lie and steal from the govt. in California-it's those whose ancestors have been in the U.S. a good 150-200 years. I'd be happy to trade welfare moms for hard-working Mexicans any time.
Co-Sleeping: Is a Family Bed Worth the Safety Concerns? {ParentDish}
Apr 11th 2011 7:22PM The only babies in all of human history that haven't co-slept are a few in recent Western societies. Yet, there are 6 1/2 billion people on earth that didn't die in their parents' bed. How did that happen?
When you remove the "scientific" studies done by crib manufacturers, you find co-sleeping has many benefits to the baby and Mom-that's why crib makers haven't been able to eliminate it.
New moms-realize that the "experts" are not on your side.
Facebook 'Smut List' Takes Cyberbullying to a Whole New Level -- So Why Isn't It a Crime? {MyDaily}
Mar 21st 2011 3:52PM Why send the girls to therapists rather than lawyers? One, suing isn't the answer to everything. Two, if innocent, they probably need skills to learn how to deal with this crud. I got idiot comments until I was in my late 20's. Third, if they are active, they probably need skills to be able to say no, so they don't end up with 2 kids by the time they are 20. This kind of shaming has been going on for decades. Even tho media promotes lots of loose coupling, it is not in the interest of the girls, or their potential children, to play that game. Shaming can teach some of themnot to ruin their lives.
Leading Experts Rethinking Food Allergy Causes {ParentDish}
Feb 11th 2011 1:29PM Allergies are more common today because of genetically modified foods. It's the DNA that doesn't belong in peanuts, soy, etc that kids are reacting to in great numbers.
I was allergic to many foods for 25 years. When my son starting reacting to all kinds of foods, I tried NAET treatments. Now both of us can eat anything. If we have a reaction, I know how to treat it myself then and there. Even people with peanut allergies can be treated with a specific protocol that will eliminate the reactions. The acupressure protocol is really life-changing, and it's non-evasive.
Ron Reagan Clears Up Alzheimer's Distraction, Talks 'SNL' and Sarah Palin {PopEater}
Jan 31st 2011 12:34AM "what we'll have then is basically a corporate and Wall Street money funnel going right into the White House and Congress with the idea of keeping the Republicans in power for perpetuity because basically the Republicans will do anything that corporate America and Wall Street asks." As if the Dems haven't been doing so for the last 2 years! Sorry, Ron-there is no difference between the 2 parties now!
Consumer Ally Interview: Toys R Us CEO Jerry Storch Talks Safety {WalletPop}
Jan 27th 2011 1:30AM If one reads the studies, not the Juvenile Furniture Manufacturers Assn's summary, it is actually statistically safer for babies in their parents' bed than in a crib. Virtually every human in the world throughout history slept in their parents' bed for some amount of time. How did we get to 6 1/2 billion people if it is so unsafe? Use your head, and stop trying to make Americans feel guilty for raising babies the way they were "designed" or "evolved" to be raised.
Autism Risk Higher With Closely-Spaced Pregnancies {ParentDish}
Jan 10th 2011 10:53AM Remember, autism has a genetic component. So if you have closely-spaced, but healthy kids, congrats-you don't have "autism genes". I find this intriguing, as it points to factors that the mom can control, as spina bifida was wiped out once we understood the role of folic acid. I personally blame aspartame for the increase, which many women drink during pregnancy. But there could be several factors, each turning on a different gene. If there is no autism in your family, you don't have a basis for commenting-leave it to those of us with parents (mine was born in 1926), siblings (mine was born in 1954), and other relatives who are on the spectrum.
Christmas list: five things I want from the airlines {Gadling}
Dec 25th 2010 8:42PM The airlines were profitable because they pushed the cost of security onto taxpayers via the TSA. Maybe if they called passengers "customers", and the TSA "Taxpayer Support of Airlines", we'd all be clear on who's paying for what.
