GM aims to double sales in Japan by 2011 {Autoblog}

Jan 20th 2009 11:29AM Opel did sell cars in Japan but quit a few years ago because of poor sales.

Richard S, you have it the wrong way round with Opel and Vauxhall. Vauxhall is just the name that GM uses in Britain for Opel cars (the ranges have been totally identical since the early 1980s), and the R&D is based in Germany.

Infiltrating North Korea Part 11: North Korean Style Advertising {Gadling}

Dec 16th 2007 7:18PM I've read that the purpose of advertisements in the USSR was to give Western visitors the impression of a modern and prosperous country. I imagine that the Pyonghwa car advertisement is intended to serve a similar purpose, not promoting the cars themselves but presenting North Korea to foreign visitors as a country "open for business".

Infiltrating North Korea Part 5: The Sexy Traffic Girls of Pyongyang {Gadling}

Dec 15th 2007 4:06PM Did your tour group go on an organised visit to see a traffic policewoman in action? The level of traffic on the roads seems heavy by Pyongyang standards, so I'm wondering if it was staged for your benefit. At least one car (the red Dacia) comes around twice.

Mondeo. Ford Mondeo. 007 set to drive mass-market Blue Oval in Casino Royale {Autoblog}

Mar 5th 2006 3:27PM For what it's worth, the Bahamas location is standing in for Madagascar, so whether or not there are Mondeos in the Bahamas doesn't matter.

Chery's first U.S. offering {Autoblog}

Jan 23rd 2006 11:00AM According to Global Auto Index, Chery makes a car called the FengYun, which appears to be the original 1991 Seat Toledo:
http://www.globalautoindex.com/bodies.plt?no=3472&ass=&g=Chery-FengYun

The
original Toledo was based on the Golf Mark III platform, but it does not look at all like a Volkswagen (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SEAT_Toledo). It looks as if the A520 is a restyled version of the FengYun, and oddly enough it now looks quite reminiscent of a Jetta or Passat.
