Making Sense Of Biden's $1 Million Hotel Bill In Europe {Gadling}

Mar 26th 2013 11:27AM Hi Lisa. Thanks for asking. They key here is room-nights versus number of rooms booked. The average nightly rate of around $500 is calculated by dividing the bill by the number of room-nights. They booked 136 rooms, but some of those rooms were held for multiple nights. If I book one room at a hotel for five nights, I pay for five room-nights.

In this case, $459,000 in London divided by 893 room-nights equals an average of $513 per room per night.
