Sep 3rd 2012 11:49AM David, A river can be cleaned up. Here in Victoria we had a polluted, garbage filled inlet that one started rescuing it must be at least 15 years ago. News spread of him pulling out tires, bicycle wheels, rusted cans, etc. and soon it became an annual event: the Gorge Inlet cleanup. This summer, for the first time in my memory, a celebration was held - the Gorge was clean enough to swim in again. And many did. There's hope for the Seine yet.
