Look into your state's laws to see if there is money there for you, or them, that you are unaware of. Also, if any of your parents is a veteran, doesn't drive, and has less than $80,000 in assets they may be entitled to rent assistance (or other) benefits from the VA. Look into it, there may be income out there that you are unaware of and that could help greatly.
My friend gets money just for having kids, you should be able to get some for caring for your aging parents and if one is a veteran they should get some for serving our country.

Aug 26th 2012 3:18PM She'll also be liable for any "stolen" electricity unless the utilities were in the renters name. This is why you should occasionally inspect your property (or hire someone to do so) regularly. If she'd bothered to inspect every few months she would've known about it (or any other abuses/damage) a lot sooner.
