However, although the 80's we quite politically turbulent times for the island, the police DID NOT go about shooting and killing people in the streets of Valletta.
There are only two (yet unsolved) cases of political killings on the island from that period. They were conducted by unknown thugs, one by a specifically addressed parcel bomb, they other one in a random shooting at a political party club facade, killing a party supporter inside.
As for churches, no churches were burned down, apart from a particular incident where socialist supporters attacked the church office.

We Maltese sometimes get very emotional on politics and tend to exaggerate when recalling history.
