Irish Gaelic, Rapa Nui And More Endangered Languages From Around The World {Gadling}

Jun 8th 2013 5:18PM My daughter has learned a bit of Irish Gaelic, since we have a strong Irish connection on both sides of our family tree. It's hard, since it's not always pronounced the way it's spelled, but she enjoys it, and was glad she knew at least a little of it when she visited Ireland a few years ago (if for no other reason than being able to read road signs!) My own ear for other languages is not good, sad to say.

Shocking Video Of A Texas Bigfoot! (Or Maybe Not) {Gadling}

Apr 24th 2013 7:50PM Odd that in one pic there are light colored things draped in front of "it" and in the other one there seems to be a wire fence crossing in front. Where did the fence come from all of a sudden if the pics are one right after the other? Someone's got a terrific imagination or he's trying to start some fun in Texas.....and there's bound to be a certain amount of belief by the locals, I'm sure.

Steve Salton's Tigers, Leopards at His Home Are Dragging Down Home Values, Neighbors Say {AOL Real Estate}

Feb 9th 2013 3:09PM The article clearly says, in two places, that the neighbor had bought his house a year before Salton brought the cats in. Seems to me that neighbor and the others nearby have a strong reason to complain. That fence couldn't possibly keep any large animal from getting out. The cages are beyond ugly, and should not be in a residential neighborhood.

Photo of the Day: Austin sunset {Gadling}

Mar 8th 2012 4:25PM My daughter has dozens of much better sunset shots, as well as some sunrise pics over Bahia Concepcion, Baja California. Her view from the deck of her liveaboard boat is the entrance to their harbor, with offshore islands in the distance. She never has to crop her photos or photoshop because there's nothing to block the view, lucky woman!

Seven Unbelievably Scenic Cruises {AOL Travel News}

Mar 12th 2011 4:28PM I agree that the French Polynesian islands are extremely beautiful. We flew to Tahiti, spent a week there, cruised for two weeks on the Aranui (a cargo-passenger ship that goes every three weeks through the Tuamoto atolls and to most of the Marquesas, with onshore visits everywhere), then had a week on Moorea.
The people were so warmly welcoming, and the whole month was wonderful. I just wish I could do it all over again.

Recall Roundup: Potato Chips, Men's Supplements, Strollers and More {WalletPop}

Feb 26th 2011 7:45PM If everyone who was allergic to gluten was tested, there'd be a lot more than you can possibly believe. I got very ill last spring and it took two months to be diagnosed with Celiac-sprue disease.....after two trips to the hospital and the loss of 20 pounds in about 6 weeks. It can lie dormant for years and then really knock you out, I learned. And I've met about a dozen people lately who either have this or have a relative with it. What happens is that you can't absorb the nutrition from the food you eat, and it can begin with young children showing this malnutrition. With adults, we just get sick with varying symptoms.

I cannot eat anything with wheat in it, so I'm very grateful to all the companies that are now making food without gluten.....if it doesn't say gluten-free on the label, I have to read every word of the contents list to be sure it won't make me sick. Not fun but necessary to keep me reasonably healthy.

Leading Experts Rethinking Food Allergy Causes {ParentDish}

Feb 11th 2011 5:16PM I got environmental allergies (to molds and spores on decaying vegetation) at about age 40, never having had them before. But I had no apparent food allergies until I was in my late 80's, when I got nasty nausea and diarrhea. Doctors couldn't figure out what ailed me until one decided to do an endoscopy and found I had Celiac Sprue disease and am terribly allergic to gluten in wheat, barley and rye.
It took me a month on a gluten-free diet to get over the symptoms, but after several months of it, I have had no further attacks. Luckily there are quite a lot of gluten-free foods available....including pretty tasty brownies, to my delight!

Can't imagine why I went so many years without any problems at all, and I really miss my whole wheat and sourdough breads. I understand symptoms can be different for Celiac patients, so if you've got chronic symptoms with no explanation, get checked for it. There is no cure, but there is a way to avoid bad episodes.

The Hatch-Palucks, Week 15: The Elephant In the Room {ParentDish}

Jan 22nd 2011 4:08PM When I was a child, we ate lunch in the school dining room and were told we had to eat whatever they gave us. Unfortunately grated raw carrots and coleslaw both actually turned my stomach, and after I'd forced them down, I'd have to run to the bathroom and upchuck. It was NOT a fake thing, and I was actually embarrassed over it, but couldn't overcome it. To this day I want my carrots cooked, and can't stand coleslaw!
This little girl may well be having the same sort of reaction (after all, the mother says she did it as an infant, so it couldn't have been done to get her own way.) Don't judge the family until you have been through this kind of thing.

Teens Having Cosmetic Surgery to Feel Young Again {AOL Health}

Jun 10th 2010 9:41PM I can't believe that an 18 year old would have saggy skin and need a tummy tuck after having one baby. After having 5 children (and in my forties) I was able to wear a 2-piece swimsuit and looked great.....or so I was told by a number of people on the beach. Guess it was all the exercise of chasing after those children and climbing the stairs in my home several times a day.
That girl is just ridiculous.....how could she feel "old" at 18??? And what reputable doctor would do that surgery on her?

You'll Wanna Kiss Us for This {oldstylelist}

Nov 24th 2006 8:40PM What ever happened to Blistex Lip Tone? It's the best for the price, has a nice bit of color, and lasts for ages. I bought every tube on the shelf last time, and haven't seen it since, worse luck!!
