War no more: Six countries that are (now) safe to visit {Gadling}
Jun 13th 2008 2:29PM To say that Indonesia is just now safe to visit?! That's crazy that's like saying that because of the bombings in Spain and UK that they were unsafe countries to visit!!! Indonesia is a magnificent place with incredible people. There's a perception in the media that it's an unsafe place because it's predominantly Muslim. There's no war, no has there been over there, and the tragic bombing in Bali were no worse than terrorist attacks that other western countries suffered.
Beating Google ? {Blog Maverick}
May 16th 2008 3:13PM Few more thoughts... Microsoft needs to stay ahead of the game. They're right with investing in Facebook but probably two years too late. Google sees visionary start-ups and buys them before they become too expensive (blogger, feedburner, youtube, etc) or starts their own (orkut, etc). If Microsoft wants to keep up then they need to do the same. They should buy digg or some other social media company or start their own. Yahoo started Buzz which is looking to be a big success. I can't think of anything Microsoft has done in the exploding social media/networking sphere.

May 16th 2008 3:09PM Mark,
Interesting thoughts. That would definitely cause a huge shake-up in the internet world and I wouldn't put it past Steve Ballmer, although I think Microsoft's problems come really from not coming up with creative and innovative solutions rather than anything else. They really only have themselves to blame.
Question for you though is what's up with Yahoo and why are you on the Icahn's proxy board? Is it short term financial gain or do you really think that Yahoo being acquired by Microsoft is the best thing for Yahoo?
Shark-safe wetsuits? Would different colors help? {Gadling}
May 2nd 2008 12:08PM No surfers are scared shitless by sharks, but there are only certain areas where sharks are common (i.e. Northern California, certain parts of Australia and South Africa). White Sharks are the common shark here. If you see a shark in any of these you get out of the water fast. I surfed in Northern California for 10 years and never saw one, but there are breaks that are "sharky." They tend to have deep water channels and rocky ledges and you just get weird feeling out there. Some breaks also have a reputation for attacks, and you try to avoid these or at least surf with your friends (more options for the shark). I dive also and have never seen a shark, but generally reef sharks are less aggressive. I think I'd crap my pants if I saw a 15 ft white shark diving. There have been a few attacks on divers by whites most recently an abalone diver in Northern California a couple years ago. You should check out the book - Devil's Teeth.

May 2nd 2008 1:43AM I'm a surfer, you won't catch me wearing anything other than black or grey in the water. Surfers are probably the most style conscious athletes. Here's a link to some guy that had your same idea (BTW, no surfer actually uses this stuff).

Also, there are plenty of attacks that happen in warm water without wetsuits. One just happened this week in Mexico:

Apple TV gets 160GB disk... and YouTube too {Engadget}
May 30th 2007 9:15PM I doubt that anyone posting negative comments on the apple TV has sampled on the in store. I checked one out the other day and was pretty impressed. The interface is apple-easy and it streams content like photos and music and stores videos and shows. Apple TV seems like a trivial release for fan-boys and hobby-ists, but considering how much network content they have and movies and the fact that there has been some 250 million + copies of itunes downloaded, I think we're going to be surprised where this product goes. Netflix and others are trying to get into the download market, but you still have the problem of getting from your computer to the tv, Apple has solved the problem and with iTunes on 250+ computers, you can see where this is leading.
