Gadling Gift Guide: Tech for Travel {Gadling}

Dec 8th 2011 9:27PM When I started traveling, I noticed many people melded to their work, which is great for their employer but not so healthy for the employee. I agree that travel has not changed for the best but there is a fantastic assortment of technology out there. I figured out quickly enough that my health both mental and physical was an important part of my overall travel experience. As my travel increased, I began looking to technology to help aid me on this course of decompression. My Kindle is one of my best friends as I love to read and it gives me a great distraction combined with some music streaming from one of my Dish Network music channels and my Sling Adapter. I notice many people enjoying their technology and it seems to calm them within all the chaos. I talked to a guy who had a ThinkPad and he raved about its weight and carbon fiber frame. I showed him my iPad2, which also can stream movies and programming from my Dish package at home with a free application called Dish Remote Access. He was just as fascinated with my technology as I was with his especially with the fact that the Sling is being offered free to new and existing customers through a rebate. He looked at me a little funny for a minute then laughed. He said he had Dish and had no idea, he travels so much that he does not have time to explore all the options that he would like. I told him I travel a lot as well through my work for Dish Network so I completely understand. I then noticed that he also had a pair of Bose QuietComfort headphones, which I simply could not live without. I need the full all around distraction from the stress and chaos especially during the Holidays. We ended up on the same plane and had a very pleasant conversation during the rest of our journey. It is amazing what technology can do for a gal both in utilizing its abilities and in meeting a great guy in an airport.

Best Independence Day travel movies of all time {Gadling}

Jun 27th 2011 11:33PM There have been some amazing movies throughout time too many listed here for me to re-list, and I've seen all of them as I love all types of movies. Being someone who adores movies I need to have access to as many options as possible so that I can get what I want when I want it. I decided to finally start looking for an entertainment provider and what I found was astonishing. I'm also a writer of a blog on film so I had to take that into consideration. There are a lot of discussions on movies so sources are a big necessity and although the folks on the blog are very easy to talk with I think they deserve something more creative. Due to my joy of writing and the topics therein I required resources that would allow me the movie and TV options necessary to fulfill my needs. It was a bit shocking that Direct TV requires an online rebate application to be submitted just to get new customer promotions which take 6-8 weeks. Plus there are no extras for the basic package if that is all I can afford. Meaning no free HD for life, or an upgrade to a DVR should I need one or premium movie channels once I'm a customer as I found with Dish Network once a customer. This would not work due to the type of writing I do which is all based off movies and the actors surrounding them. I also found out that with Dish Network I can get more programming and movie channels for far less money plus a free Sling Adapter which fits me as I travel a lot and need to bring my services with me. I ended up changing jobs and started working for Dish Network, still traveling a lot but understanding better how all this is possible. Now I am clear that whatever makes it easiest to work and enjoy my own hobby is what is necessary. As we make our way towards the topic of their choice which happens to be Breaking Dawn at the moment I am forced to look for a character to analyze that is not a lead character as we have been there in an earlier film in the Saga. I like to be surprising but still give them something that will make them happy and enjoy visiting my lair. http://www.besttvforme.com/

Top five travel gadgets NOT to take on your next trip (and what to pack instead) {Gadling}

Mar 17th 2011 12:32AM I love new gadgets that come along making life easier for all of us who spend a lot of time up in the air. There is one in particular that has been really helpful lately especially since I've been feeling like home is more of my vacation house. I travel frequently through Dish Network and therefore I get around the country quite a bit. It's been difficult but I've been using the time to take side adventures when possible and learning more of our American history on the way. The gadget I've been really happy with is a Sling Adapter, it's a little device that sends me all my programming whenever I need the distraction unlimited. What I like even more so about it is the fact that I can have access to the recordings that I've collected about the different places I visit. So my historical side trips are enhanced which is fantastic.
