InterContinental Hotel Group prepares for 2011 openings in Russia, Portugal, Qatar, more {Gadling}

Jan 27th 2011 3:28AM This was a year end escapade for us. We wanted to have a special night, on New Year's Eve. We've booked a Club Room which had a very attractive price. We saw the photos on the official website of the hotel, then called them to make sure that's the room we're gonna get. Sure, they confirmed everything.

So, we get to the hotel the day of the check-in. When I enter the room, I come to the conclusion that it's not the room in the photos on their website. It was a room with old furniture, old appliances, that was full of static electricity. I know, one would say "you should never trust advertising", but the idea is, I used to work in tourism, that's why I called them before booking, to make sure I get exactly what I need. And still, I get ripped.

When asked at reception about the room, they said they were out of the type of room I've booked, but the one that I was given was the same standard. Yes, same standard, but from the 80's !Huuuge difference. Anyway, a very big part of the hotel still stays under the communist design, though I mention again, it IS a 5 star hotel. For their restaurant, for their position, for their finishing touches. 2 stars for services though. A customer should not beg for what he paid for (in advance). This is nowhere to be found in 5 star chain hotels.
