Deep sea hunter fishes underwater for five minutes - on one breath {Gadling}
Jan 26th 2011 2:07PM If you're really interested in this subject the inspiring and definitive book on the subject is "Last of the Blue Water Hunters" by Carlos Eylesby. A deep water hunter avoids rupturing his eardrums by equalizing the air in his ears as he descends by blowing out with nose pinched. Holding one's breath for an extended period is the greatest danger, as unconsciousness can strike at any time and unless the person is quickly brought to the surface by a companion they will drown. The greatest hunters can descend to 100 feet or so before the weight of the water becomes unbearable, but this takes years of practice, both physical and mental.
