A very educational computer {ParentDish}
Nov 20th 2006 8:24AM I think the computers today are simpler. But maybe I'm talking about them being user-friendly. But they had to build them in such a way that learning about the technical stuff is impossible for technically-challenged people such as myself. I guess I'm just happy and contented with just knowing how to turn it on and off. I long for the day that I finakky get what goes on inside
this wonderful tin box that made my life easier.
Cinematical's costume contest {ParentDish}
Nov 20th 2006 8:23AM Dressing up for halloween is exciting. That's why kids can't wait for the next halloween! Even parents I'm sure are oozing with so much costume ideas. Sometimes I wish there were like 5 halloweens in a year. This way we can try out all our ideas. Once a year is just not enough.
Teens don't email {ParentDish}
Nov 19th 2006 11:15AM I preferred instant messaging for some time in the past. But as time went by, I found that emailing is more convenient. I still use instant messengers and of course text messaging on my celphone. But there are some things that would be better communicated through email. I think teens prefer instant messaging and myspace because of the "coolness" that comes with it. Email's a bit more plain and serious. But as they get older, they will eventually find emailing more
suitable for communicating...especially at work.
The wheels on the bus go straight to the ER {ParentDish}
Nov 19th 2006 11:15AM I think adult supervisors are a must. Seatbelts should be there but they're not enough. The kids can just take them off soon as the bus starts moving. It would be dangerous also to leave all the monitoring to the bus driver. He or she has to concentrate on the road.
NPR on Newby {Gadling}
Nov 16th 2006 1:15PM I don;t know much about Eric Newby but he seems like an interesting guy. Only after news of his death did I take interets in who he was. I heard the interview with Wanda Newby. I like the part when she said of her husband that "he just wanted to see how the world worked." And that
they always stayed in modest places because "this is where you meet the people." He was an extraordinary man.
Word for the Travel Wise (10/23/06) {Gadling}
Nov 16th 2006 1:14PM I like learning about other languages. This is actually the first time I've heard of Amharic. They're words sound like they're easy to learn. But I doubt that to actually learn the language, grammar and all, would be a breeze. I tried learning Arabic, but to no avail. Given the time, I would definitely make extra effort to learn it.
24 Hours in Vegas with the Pogues {Gadling}
Nov 16th 2006 1:13PM I've never heard of the Pogues before. But the way you describe them and their music makes me want to check them out. And I will! You're right about Vegas. 24 hours is all you need. I think it's a cool city but too exhausting if I have to stay more than a day. Hope
you had luck at the Casinos. :)
Red Corner: Shooting Plastered Bears {Gadling}
Nov 16th 2006 1:12PM That's not hunting! Where's the thrill in that? Poor Bear. Was too wasted to even to know what was going on. But I guess that's a good thing. At least he didn't
have to feel fear before dying. And I hope he was drunk enough to not feel the pain. As for the King of Spain, you want thrill? You should've just wrestled the bear.
May the best creature win.
BASE Jumper Dies {Gadling}
Nov 16th 2006 2:02AM I don't believe it! People recover so fast from tragedies these days. I witnessed a turkey being butchered in front of me 18 years ago. To this day I cannot bring myself to eat turkey. I tried it once and loved it. But 30 minutes later, I vomited everything. I'm sure base-jumping is exciting and thrilling. But the consequences are far too great for me to ever want to take that risk. Once your paracute fails, there's no turning back. I feel so sad for that man.
The Panda's Thumb {Gadling}
Nov 16th 2006 2:01AM That's a crying shame. Pandas look so adorable and harmless. But let us not forget that it's a wild animal. It will do whatever it takes to protect itself. Maybe it felt threatened by the old lady. Usually when animals attack like that they've had some kind of traumatic experience. I hope not in the hands of its caretaker.
