Cockpit Chronicles: Captain on the MD-80? Why? {Gadling}

Mar 28th 2012 6:42AM Congrats Ken! In my previous life, I too went back and forth from true glass cockpits back to the older technology. I recall going from the Fokker-100 (my airline sent me to American's Pilot Training facility in Dallas for training!), back to the 737-200 that I had flown for nearly 6,000 hours in the 80s. I looked at all the switches, dials and knobs on the 737 and thought that I'd never be able to learn them all again after flying the clean and simple cockpit of the Fokker 100! I also recall listening to a very senior American Captain in the hotel van taking us to the training center one night as he was going from the 3-man, old cockpit 727 to the 2-man glass cockpit of the 767! He was sweating bullets over the modern technology and not having a Flight Engineer to rely on! So, don't laugh when you learn about the plumb bob in the nose wheel well, or when you realize that "the Big White Switch" will be your best friend in a complete electrical failure! Think of the MD-80 (and I'm pretty sure that your FAA Type Rating will say "DC-9"!) as your "Dad's jet" and enjoy it while you can!!

Dolphins' Players Stand Behind Tony Sparano, Chad Henne {Fanhouse NFL Blog}

Dec 28th 2010 7:41AM Been a fan and also have held a season ticket and been to many games over the last 40 years. For me, I'm just tired of the revolving door at the front office, for the head coaches and the quarterback position since 2000. If they keep the same front office, coaches and quarterback for 2011, who REALLY thinks that we'll have a shot at the Super Bowl? I predicted 8-8 for this year and that's all that we can expect next year. They let Wes Welker go, they still run it up the middle on third and long, they STILL have crappy special teams (when's the last time that the Dolphins blocked a kick?), they passed on Drew Brees and countless other 1st class QBs in the draft (while taking Pat White????)so, right from the top, the crappy decisions continue. If owner Ross REALLY wants to compete for the Super Bowl, he needs to flush the Parcells Toilet right now. Anyone notice how Bill is nowhere to be found? Is he standing by his man Tony? Is he shouldering any blame? Nope....he's smoking a cigar somewhere. Bring in Bill Cowher, let HIM run the show, the front office, the draft and we'll start seeing some winning seasons. The Chin's well rested and he's hungry now..... If they hire another recently fired head coach, that will signal yet another age of mediocraty...... uggh.....
