Hiking the Pacific Crest Trail: The Rain -- The joys of Pacific Northwest hiking {Gadling}
Jan 18th 2011 8:25PM Hi acetracker,
Thanks for watching! The most common direction to thru hike the trail is from south to north. This year there were very few southbound thrus due to the severe snowy weather in the north cascades last winter that left the area packed in until well into July.
Please take a look at http://www.pcta.org for more trip planning information!
Best,
Adam
Hiking the Pacific Crest Trail: The Food {Gadling}
Jan 11th 2011 10:56AM Hi Bill,
Thanks for watching! Katie and I both stayed really positive throughout the hike and were determined to finish the entire length of the trail. That being said, there were definitely many tough mornings when it was hard to get out of our cozy sleeping bags - especially when the weather got bad (stay tuned to the videos to find out more details about hiking in rainy and snowy conditions). Some days you don't really feel like walking 20-30 miles - but you don't much of a choice once you're out there. At the end of the day, its always a rewarding feeling! Life on the trail moves at a much different pace then everyday living and many hikers will tell you that it's really an addictive habit!
Katie and I are planning future long distance hikes and both working freelance media jobs in NYC. I do video work and she is a writer and pr consultant.
Thanks for your interest and keep on watching and of course happy trails!
Adam
