Americans Abducted, Robbed And Beaten In Peru {Gadling}

Jan 25th 2013 4:25PM Thank you for posting that video, Chris. It helps to clear up a lot of speculations some have had to see their actual photos from the incident.

Jan 8th 2013 5:54PM I also should add that I recognize that this is, so far, a one-sided report.

Americans Abducted, Robbed And Beaten In Peru {Gadling}

Jan 8th 2013 5:43PM Chichalimona,
I read your post on this. While I believe you bring up some good points in understanding the full scope of the situation, the violence doesn't seem warranted by any possible scenario. You acknowledge this and you address the motive and other complicated factors, but the violence is the focal point of this story and the main problem at hand. Reasons why the violence happened do need to be understood and I would encourage a Peruvian who is both good with English and the internet to tell the other side of the story on behalf of the people of Pallca, if possible. I'm interested in hearing their story, but I don't believe any scenario will excuse the horrible violence suffered in this case.

Press 1 If You're Being Eaten By A Bear: Paranoia At A Vermont Campground {Gadling}

Sep 1st 2012 10:12AM Good story. I've been in both positions. I've scared myself to death with a bear outside of my tent in Yellowstone (it actually was a bear) rummaging through the pudding cup I'd accidentally left out. I've also had to check into campsites after midnight, in the rain, and I've had to leave before the rangers got in--not because I wanted to avoid fees, but because I was on tour and had a stubborn schedule.

The Worst-Smelling Towns In America {Gadling}

Aug 1st 2012 2:42PM I don't need elaboration on the Chinatown remark. Rotting fish and other sea creatures piling up in garbage don't smell good.

New Yorkers Fight Back Against Airbnb Renters {Gadling}

Jul 26th 2012 7:20PM I love Airbnb and I use it as a host. While I understand some of the concerns people may have over Airbnb hosts, it's simply not the same thing as a hotel... or even a bed and breakfast, if you ask me. It's much more like Couchsurfing with an additional fee. In my case, almost all of that fee goes to buying food, drinks, fresh flowers, gas for rides, repairs for the bikes we lend out, etc. for the guests. Most people who rent from me become friends and come back again and again--as friends. There shouldn't be a limit to how many friends a person can have in their own home, or with what frequency. Collecting a fee from a renter doesn't make an Airbnb host a hotel, bed and breakfast, or landlord. It's apples and oranges.

Iconic Road Trips: An Unforgettable Trip Down The West Coast {Gadling}

May 29th 2012 9:15AM I would love to do the Seattle to Portland portion of this trip. I just didn't have an opportunity to when I was out for the described above trip. Next time, I hope.
