The Problem with New York's new Eataly {Gadling}

Nov 19th 2010 10:12AM Bravo! I am so pleased you had the courage to write this review. I have not yet been to the establishment in NY however have no desire to do so. When it was being touted as an authentic Italian dining experience in NY, I knew it was in trouble. Do you have your table for the entire evening? Does the restaurant owner bring you his home made limoncello to your table and encourage you to drink as much as you like (and not charge you for the experience)? Does the cook , often a nonna come out and ask you if you enjoyed your meal? I understand that in NY there is an emphasis on local foods, how could importing Italian goods ever be considered part of that mantra? As you so aptly point out. Batalli said in an interview, he did not create a food Disneyland, perhaps he's created an Italyland. When I've tried to discuss this with others, I've been hushed and that stake has been waved in front of me. So, I've kept my thoughts to myself, until now. grazie ~
