Talking Travel with Ingrid Emerick {Gadling}

Jul 3rd 2007 10:51AM This book sounds great, but I'd love to see a book about travels with children with stories and advice as well. Traveling with children sounds like a rewarding challenge that most people don't try.

Talking Travel with Brook Silva-Braga {Gadling}

Jun 20th 2007 8:22PM Great interview. I hope this movie will serve as enlightenment and inspiration for individuals who haven't traveled much.

Quiz: How Well-Traveled Are You? {Gadling}

Jan 23rd 2007 5:24PM I agree. I was disappointed by the quiz because it only considered cities. If you visit rural areas or national parks they don't count.

Yearning for Antarctic Adventure {Gadling}

Jan 11th 2007 8:04PM There are lots of opportunities to become involved in polar regions research with 2007-2008 being designated as the International Polar Year (IPY). See www.ipy.org.

Kayaking the Galapagos {Gadling}

Jan 11th 2007 8:00PM This sounds awesome! I read the article but didn't see any suggestions for local outfits with paddling trips in the Galapagos. Do you know of any good suggestions? Thanks!

Gadling Audio Slideshow: Newfoundland Part I {Gadling}

Jul 25th 2006 12:19PM Very nice slideshow...very professionally done. What type of software did you use to create it? Thanks!

Photo of the Day: Patagonia Icebergs {Gadling}

Apr 7th 2006 4:59PM Clarification:
The photo seems to be from Patagonia, Argentina near the glacier Upsala. This is an inland icefield in Los Glaciares National Park. See http://gosouthamerica.about.com/library/blglaciaresmap.htm

You were probably getting confused with Uppsala, Sweden which is an inland city (not coastal). Also, it is too far south (and not in the mountains) to have glaciers. See this map: http://www.worldatlas.com/webimage/countrys/europe/lgcolor/secolor.htm

Hope this helps!

Testing Your Backpack Before a Big Trip {Gadling}

Jan 19th 2006 12:07PM It is very important (and can make a big difference) to have your belt and all of the straps adjusted properly. Consider visiting a camping store such as REI with your pack. They have "backpacking specialists" that can load down your pack with bags of sand and then adjust your straps according to your body. I would highly suggest that you do this. For me, it made a huge difference. Good luck!

Skiing Yellow Snow {Gadling}

Jan 13th 2006 2:03PM My opinion is that the ski resort should not be built on these sacred lands...enough said. However, I do not agree about the wastewater issue. As an environmental chemist, I can tell you that reclaimed wastewater is often treated such that it has less contaminants than normal well water. With water shortages going on, especially in the southwest, people should get over the idea of "reclaimed wastewater" as a bad thing. It has even been suggested in many areas to be used for drinking water; although the non-scientific public usually opposes this simply over the media presentation of "toilet-to-tap." I think that a ski resort would be a great use of recycled water, and the snow would not be yellow. There should not be any risk to human health whatsoever. We, especially those of us in the US, should become more environmentally conscious because all environmental pollution (whether air, water, land) affects the health of humans and the natural resources we depend on. Studies have shown that contrary to many political assertions, more strict environmental regulations have a net beneficial effect on the economy (decreased mortality rates, increased number of jobs, etc.). Thanks for listening!
