Plenty of Motivation for Spartans, Heels {Fanhouse - Kevin Blackistone}
Apr 6th 2009 4:31PM North Carolina could use some cheering up as well -- they are 4th highest in the nation on the unemployment rate list. In fact, where I live the unemployment rate is now over 17%. I realize that Detroit is supposedly at 22%, but that makes me wonder how the depressed people of Michigan can afford what it costs to go to Ford Field and root for the home team!
Elizabeth Dole's Symptoms {Politics Daily}
Nov 2nd 2008 11:29AM Who gets to be the "true Americans" often referred to by the Republicans? Sarah Palin said North Carolina is where the true America is, while McCain said the most patriotic people live in western Pennsylvania. Another member of that campaign mentioned going to campaign in those areas of Virginia where the "real" Virginia is as opposed to the areas of the state where they appear to be taking a beating. How about those other battleground states like Florida, Missouri, etc. -- don't they get to be the "real America", or did I just miss those campaign speeches?
When McCain Says 'Tested' {Politics Daily}
Oct 23rd 2008 5:32PM I felt from the start that Obama was too "green" in his experience to be the best candidate for president.I have been a supporter of John McCain's in the past, and had planned to do the same in this election cycle, but Sarah Palin is making me re-think that decision. Colon Powell put into words what I was feeling, but could not articulate, about the way this campaign has evolved. John McCain is not the John of 2000, so I feel we will be better off with the man who is obviously well-educated, well-spoken, and can think on his feet, even without "executive experience". Can the new president expect to be tested by something in the coming months? What else is new? I am unsure what John's declaration of having been tested refers to, but I believe being tested does not necessarily deal with the job, but rather how someone may respond based on lessons learned through personal experiences and tragedies. There's where true character comes from -- I expect John could agree since he speaks of his time of captivity as being such an experience. We do not know where strength may come from for any individual facing crisis, but it is certainly there. We are Americans, a proud people who will continue to be strong regardless of who wins this election.
The Affirmative Case: Caleb For McCain {Politics Daily}
Oct 14th 2008 1:45PM The funny thing about earmarks is that they don't appear to be bad to most people unless someone else is getting them.
The Affirmative Case: Dave for McCain {Politics Daily}
Oct 10th 2008 5:28PM I have read both sets of arguments for the candidates, and as an independent voter I noticed that the McCain version centered entirely around the Iraq war. Why? There is nothing else for me to get my teeth into.
Taunting Prospects {Politics Daily}
Oct 9th 2008 4:49PM None of these candidates are bad people, they are simply trying to win an election and have lost sight of what they are sacrificing to do so. McCain says he is not the one presenting the material, but he is allowing someone from his campaign to incite crowds to a point that may turn out to be beyond anyone's control. As a Christian person, could she live with herself if people were injured or killed because of her deliberate inciting? If Cindy McCain wants to know what a true chill running down someone's spine is, try the thought of someone out to kill based on the trash they have heard tossed about at one of these rallies. Stranger things have happened. I am disappointed with the McCains -- as a registered independent voter who is a contemporary of John's, I had expected to cast my vote for him because I considered Obama not experienced enough for the job, but Sarah Palin has changed my mind. John, you once said you would rather lose the election than a war -- what do you think your campaign is bringing about?
Letterman Mocks McCain {Politics Daily}
Sep 25th 2008 9:01AM As a registered independent who has not made up her mind where her vote will go (but has supported McCain in the past), I find myself seriously wondering at McCain's recent actions. He has said in recent days that the fundamentals of our economy are fine, and followed that with speeches that seemed to indicate that he didn't really know what he was talking about, then flip-flopped over bailing out the various companies. Newer polls showed that he appeared to be losing ground over the question of the economy, and when Obama scalled to suggest a joint statement from them about the economy, he puts him off for a while, then issues his own statement instead. He pulls out of a Letterman show (I never watch him) at the last minute, saying he had to rush back to Washington to work on the economy, and he was putting all his campaigning on hold. Then he proceeds to do an interview with Katie Couric in the same building at the same time he couldn't be on Letterman because he had to rush back to Washington, putting his campaign on hold. Come on, John -- give me a reason to trust you again!
Obama's Social Security Claim Debunked {Politics Daily}
Sep 21st 2008 11:27PM s c davis: play fair, now -- McCain got $169,000 alone from Freddie Mac/Fannie directors, etc., which appears to me to be more than the $125,000 you mention.
Obama's Social Security Claim Debunked {Politics Daily}
Sep 21st 2008 11:06PM I guess McCain is showing us how well he has learned to play the game during his more than 25 years in Washington -- he does not come across as sincere to some of us as to others. By the way, it has been mentioned many times in various places that he was next to the last in his class, not 5th from the bottom, but I have not researched that fact, so I do not mind if he keeps the one he claimed. I am a registered independent, never an Obama fan, and I too have been watching carefully what these men have to say. I am not happy with McCain's age, which is very close to my own, and I notice that his wife appears to be ALWAYS joined to his hip as if she fears something is going to happen to him. If something should happen, I cannot imagine Palin running this country. I have nothing against her as the intelligent, captivating person she appears to be (even with her repetitious speeches), but I do not want someone with so little education and world experience to be in charge of this country. There has to be a reason why McCain's campaign has allowed very little access to her, and I think I can guess what it is -- she is not ready by a long shot. That's not to say that she cannot learn, but someone in the last year or so mentioned that this kind of job is not one that takes well to on-the-job training. However, the scariest part of this race to me is that the McCain campaign has indicated that in 2000 they "played nice", and lost because of the dirty politics used against them, and that they will not make that mistake this time -- they will do what it takes to win, no matter what other people think. I am not sure I can be comfortable with that kind of administration (look at the present one as a case in point). One more thought: as the member of a military family, I am curious as to why McCain did not sign the new G. I. Bill. Was it just the cost? It makes him appear unsupporting of the troops.
Obama Ad Ridicules McCain over War Injuries {Politics Daily}
Sep 13th 2008 3:52PM Why can't McCain type like I do from time to time -- the old hunt & peck system? Where is it written that he has to be an expert typist to send out e-mail? One finger would do, and I haven't seen anything to indicate his war wounds would keep him from that.
