SmackDown: Would You Make Your Kid Drink Hot Sauce as Punishment? {ParentDish}
Feb 1st 2011 8:17PM
Hot sauce is very dangerous. It is not unheard for a child who has this put in his/her mouth to choke and require medical care at the emergency room.
Honestly, I'm much more sympathetic to a parent who uses corporal punishment such as spanking than I am to this. With spanking, the worst thing that will happen is a kid will end up with a bruise on their butt.
'Teen Mom' Amber Portwood Can't Imagine Not Seeing Her Daughter {PopEater}
Jan 5th 2011 9:23AM Its a good thing for Amber's child and Amber both that this fight was aired on t.v. Otherwise she might have been able to slide through life pretending she doesn't have an anger management problem that needs to be dealt with.
Now, her behavior has to be dealt with. She'll either take her medicine, go through counseling and rehabilitation and change her ways, or she will lose custody of her child.
Amber and her family need to see her unhealthy behavior for what it is. This sort of thing could land her in prison. A child who is present in a dysfunctional environment including one that tolerates spousal abuse, learns to abuse his/her spouse. A child learns to see such vicious behavior as "normal" and a way to "solve problems".
Its sad Amber's family cannot see this as a positive development. The girl needs to change her ways or lose her kid. Its that simple.
Palin Friend: Sarah Wants to Kick Levi Johnston's A** {PopEater}
Aug 6th 2010 9:54AM Sarah Palin is not responsible for what Levi is saying and doing currently. Everyone can agree on that.
In a way though, Sarah precipitated these events by initially campaigning for Vice President saying her qualifications included being a mother to her children. Well, that's fine, but if you are going to state that as a qualification, you give people the right to inquire into your own family life. That is never a wise thing to do. Both Bill Clinton and Obama have been careful to leave family out of their public life as much as possible.
Sarah was more reckless and when she opened the door to her family by putting Bristol on the stage with her boyfriend and carrying around her infant son all the time she gave the tabloid press an opportunity to exploit the situation.
Although I am not a Palin supporter, I am sympathetic to Sarah on some level. Yet, I don't think we would be where we are today if she haven't pretty much invited the press to take "potshots" at her family.
Should Schools Be Able To Hit Your Kids? {ParentDish}
Jun 11th 2010 6:34PM I believe that it was a mistake to remove corporal punishment from the schools the way they have. Kids were better behaved and more respectful because they understood readily what the consequences would be if they didn't behave.
I was paddled in junior high school twice. Once for talking in class and the second time for swearing.
That's all it took were two times and I learned not to act up. I think today's kids are actually receiving a disservice because we don't correct them. Sooner or later they have to learn. Its always easier to learn while you are young--even if it involves a little pain.
LeAnn Rimes Owns Up to Hurt Caused by Affair {The Boot}
Jun 6th 2010 10:41AM What Leann Rimes did was wrong. However, this behavior is much more common than anyone wants to admit. I think rather than condemning Rimes it might behoove all of us to examine our own marriages and see how pure we are. I would venture to say that 90% of marriages have significant issues. To give an example, a recent survey claims 63% of all women claim they'd rather be doing something other than having sexual relations with their spouses.
No spouse deserves to be cheated on. However, the communication in many marriages is very poor. There are too many men who treat women as simply some kind of object to gratify desires. On the other hand, there are too many women who once they married stopped having sex with their husbands because they regard it now as unnecessary inconvenience.
Spouses often choose to cheat because they know they can't get their spouse to have the kind of relationship with them that they want. Sure, they could try to talk it out. However, after living with someone for years you may know what the answer is beforehand.
I have heard many say "Why not get a divorce if you really feel this way?". Divorce is often not a realistic option for couples with several children. There can also be economic issues that preclude divorce for some spouses. And, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that if you do divorce that running two households on the same income results in a decline in the standard of living for both ex-spouses.
Again, I do not defend Leann Rimes behavior. However, all of us who are married ought to ask ourselves, do we really care about our spouses? Or is the marriage just about what is important to US? A truly honest answer requires some soul-searching. If you expect your marriage to last and you don't want your spouse cheating be prepared to work on communication and be prepared to go that extra mile. Marriage is not easy and we don't all automatically live "happily ever after".
Is There Sex After 35? Survey Says 'Maybe Not' {Lemondrop}
Feb 18th 2010 11:16AM I am talking in generalizations and I am sure there are many individuals who are an exception to this rule.
Let's begin with the fact that men and women are just different. There is no way around this. If you are a man, its unrealistic to expect a woman to have your attitude towards sex. Her anatomy is different and the risks to women from sex are greater than they are for men (pregnancy, sexually transmitted disease etc.) Even if physically she enjoys sex there is an element of risk (or danger) in it that is not there for us men.
On the other hand, if you're a woman you *maybe* preoccupied with notions of what I will call "fairy-tale romance". It goes something like this: He's going to be handsome; he's going to have lots of money; he's going to be strong; he's going to be funny and charming; he's going to respect me; and he's going to be REALLY handsome (I realize I'm repeating this a second time)
I realize these are generalizations. There are women who truly like sex. There are men who share at least some of these notions of fairy-tale-romance. Most people do want to be married and are willing to accept some compromises in their view of the world to be married. Some women though deliberately avoid having sex once they feel securely married. Some men cheat when they realize their sexual fantasies didn't come true after marriage.
Men and women are coming from two basically different places. Many if not most of the problems that result after marriage stem from these two different worldviews. Honestly, the conclusions of this study don't surprise me at all. I suspect if you broke it down, a large segment of those women still having sex are doing it reluctantly and only because they are afraid they might lose their mate if they don't.
Mother of 'Teen Mom' Arrested Over Choking Incident {PopEater}
Jan 19th 2010 11:03AM The problem with alot of these teen moms is their parents were reluctant to discipline during their formative years. This girl needed a whooping long ago and I'm sure never got one. In the olden days, it wasn't unheard of for mom or dad to take a naughty kid out back to the woodshed where they'd drop their pants for a good paddling.
I'm just sorry this mother waited this long. If I had a daughter like that, I'm sure I'd haul off and whack her too.
Parents Outraged Over Drunk Bus Driver's Punishment {ParentDish}
Jan 8th 2010 10:09PM I truly think some actions call for a very severe punishment. I am not certain the solution is always to lock someone up in jail at the taxpayers expense for long periods of time. I think as a society we have to be more flexible and creative than that.
I think they ought to consider the idea of making this woman wear a sign that says something like "I drove a bus while drunk and placed the lives of dozens of children in danger". She could stand in a public place for eight hours a day for a week or something like that.
Also, I'm not sure that the good ole' days when they flogged some offenders was such a bad idea. I bet if this woman was forced to bare her butt for a whipping she'd think twice about ever drinking again.
Eat, drink, and spend money: Restaurants ply diners with cheap booze {Daily Finance}
Sep 30th 2009 3:31PM I've observed chain restaurants for years and with a few exceptions I think they are price gougers. Dinner out shouldn't cost $45 for two people. Yet, with a drink, tax, and tip it often does. Another beef I have is that many restaurants serve skimpy portions of everything, but potatoes. Its not justifiable when you realize that the cost of the meal is barely affected by making a six ounce steak an eight ounce steak. The real costs for running a restaurant are not food. Its transportation, labor costs, rent, insurance, advertising, utilities, and taxes. It would cost most places almost nothing to serve a decent sized steak instead of a puny one.
I imagine the restaurants idea of a "deal" is to take a drink or glass of wine they have been charging $7 for and reduce it to $5.50. If so, its still sold at a huge profit.
