5 great ways to explore national parks under your own power {Gadling}
Apr 30th 2011 12:55PM Acadia is like camp for grown-ups. When I cycle the carriage roads, I often incorporate hiking circuits (there are 130 miles of well-marked and extraordinarily scenic, varied trails). We also kayak Somes Sound, the fiord dividing the park, or some of the glacial lakes. Great Long Pond is a favorite -- and the start of some fantastic hikes. Every trip to Acadia has to include lobster. If you're planning a visit, I recommend the site below for tips for restaurants, places to rent bikes, and kayaking and mountain climbing guides:

Off the beaten path: Road trip to a rarely visited National Park {Gadling}
Jun 11th 2010 10:22PM Acadia is the only national park that was donated to the U.S. by private parties who purchased land to preserve it! It's a gift for those of us who love to hike (110 miles of trails) and bike (57 miles of carriage roads constructed by John D. Rockefeller, Jr.). This is a great recommendation for moderate-challenging hikes:
