Group Will Sue McDonald's Over Happy Meal Toys {ParentDish}
Jul 2nd 2010 11:46AM This lawsuit was supposed to be in the interest of the public, but a large number of people seem to be speaking out against it.
Concerned citizens and parents attacked the Center for Science in the Public Interest’s (CSPI) Facebook page regarding their potential lawsuit against McDonald’s Happy Meal Toys.

Bob Cutler, CEO of Creative Consumer Concepts (C3), addressed CSPI’s ridiculous claims and the possibility of the unnecessary lawsuit. “This lawsuit is CSPI and the government over-reaching. Parents are capable of choosing what their children should eat. This issue pries on public sensitivity for issues such as obesity, the poor or the unemployed, which nobody can stand against without looking completely insensitive,” said Cutler.

Santa Clara Bans Happy Meal Toys {Slashfood}
Jun 11th 2010 1:02PM Michael, you make a good point that families may drive across county lines now to get the happy meal toy for their child. It raises the notion that this ban is only going to frustrate parents who are willing to get the toy for their child. This ban takes away the rights and responsibilities of parents to make the correct choices for their children. This matter should not be taken over by the government and the parenting duties should be left where they belong. According to a survey conducted by the California Restaurant Association, 87% of Santa Clara County residents feel lawmakers are not better informed to make decisions about what kind of food sold in restaurants is healthy and nutritious. We need to let the government know about our views against this legislation before it gets passed elsewhere.
Eric Mar, member of the Board of Supervisors for the City and County of San Francisco, is asking for legislation similar to Santa Clara County’s happy meal toy ban. Call and tell him NO.

A leading kid-focused marketing agency for the restaurant industry, Creative Consumer Concepts (C3), has taken a stand on this issue. Bob Cutler, CEO, states that “unfortunately, banning kids meal toys from restaurants will not resolve childhood obesity. C3 has been educating, advocating and executing healthy food options for kids and parents and will continue to commit to supporting this issue.”Read more in their position paper on the toy ban: http://jenningssocialmedia.com/downloads/C3.SANTACLARA_Final.pdf
Opinion: Happy Meal Toy Ban Is Just Plain Sad {ParentDish}
Jun 11th 2010 12:27PM Brett, I completely agree with you. A toy ban on kids meals is not the answer to childhood obesity. This issue should be left with the parents to make the correct food choices for their children. If their child wants a kids meal because the toy is enticing them, do parents not have the ability to simply say no. The toy ban is not getting to the root of the obesity problem and should be stopped.
