Where on Earth week 48: Vang Vieng, Laos {Gadling}

Mar 7th 2008 11:32PM I am a little bemused by the criteria being applied to make this place a "budget backpacker's prime destination". It is awful, just awful. Yes, tubing can be fun, but that is all this place has to offer and is hardly unique in that regard. What is unique is the ability to watch three repeats of Friends simultaneously, if one strategically locates oneself in the street. Is that really what makes this a prime backpcker's destination? Now that Seinfield is available as well, does that improve it or make it worse?

I was dropped on the main road, found a nice guest house as far from a Friends repeat as I could, and was gone as soon as transport could be arranged.

Forget Flying for Cheap: Have Them Pay You to Fly! {Gadling}

Nov 8th 2006 12:22AM The courts here in New Zealand have already stepped in and said it is fraudulent to advertise a fare without factoring in the other costs, and Australian airlines are voluntarily advertising fully inclusive fares (to stay one step ahead of the regulator, I guess). Sure, you're not committed until you know the final price, but one idea is that advertised prices be comparable, and when different airlines have different surcharges, taxes and other add-ons, it becomes impossible to comparison shop.

Sydney Wins...Again {Gadling}

Oct 17th 2006 6:00PM There is no way that Sydney is the cultural capital of Australia! That honour goes to Melbourne.
