Nursing Home for Your Backyard in a Medical Care Cottage {Housingwatch}
May 22nd 2010 11:15PM Why not modify the ground floor of an elderly family's home along the lines of the pod--in later years, living rooms, dining rooms, etc. get little or no use. Modifications could be reversed when property is turned over to a younger generation. Common half baths on a first floor could be expanded for tub or shower. Quarters could be included for live-in care-givers. Doorways might need to be widened to accommodate wheel chairs. When making changes, eventual sale might be anticipated and improvements made to increase marketability both inside and out. A first effort of this sort might be a project for "This Old House" program on Public Television. At 88 and 84 my wife and I could be good candidates for having a "stay-at-home" facility that is still within the neighborhood, near the children and grandchildren and not unsightly.
