Spring Break 2011: Where to Go and Where to Avoid {AOL Travel News}

Feb 3rd 2011 12:07PM The comments about South Padre Island are way off. First, appropriate concerns about binge drinking are a national issue, not confined to any specific community. Secondly, the challenges in Mexico have not impacted South Padre Island at all. We are 30 miles north of the border and, like other US. cities at or near the Mexican border, have seen no hints of disruption in our communities. We obviously urge people to stay in the U.S.

In terms of the individual acts mentioned, sadly similar things happen in every metropolitan city in the U.S. almost every day. No one is saying avoid them.

South Padre Island is totally dedicated to the safety and security of our residents and visitors. No laws of our city or the state of Texas are abandoned during Spring Break or any other time of the year.

The author obviously does not like any of the traditional spring break destinations. They should come for themselves and see what it is really like.

35 fantastic U.S. beaches for Summer {Gadling}

May 7th 2010 9:36AM South Padre Island is fantastic, however it really isn't near Corpus Christi. South Padre Island is about 2 1/2 hours south of Corpus Christi at the very southern tip of Texas, then just over two miles off shore...connected by the longest causeway in Texas!
