Jan 26th 2011 8:10PM I lived in Austria for almost a year and a half once. One chain that they no longer have there is Pizza Hut (they did when I was there for the summer in 2000, but not after 2003). Now, I can't even remember the last time that I went to Pizza Hut in the States, but when I would take trips to Hungary (which I did pretty often), I used to seek it out. Vienna has plenty of pizza options, but no place that I know of with the thick crust goodness of American pizza. Don't get me wrong, I love Hungarian food and was constantly seeking a better paprika csirke (paprika chicken, best meal ever!). But ever so often, it was impossible not to give in to temptation.
What always amazed me was that the server at your generic Hungarian Pizza Hut would speak at least two languages (Hungarian and English). Less common in the US!
My other Hungarian 'treat' was Cheetos. In Austria, you could not find Cheetos or any variation thereof. For some reason, they have them in Hungary.
Nov 19th 2010 7:48PM The family and I are seeing the Pats play the Lions in Detroit! As an avowed Pats fan, this is one of the best ways of enjoying the holiday that I can think of! Plus it is inside (much more enjoyable that outside in Buffalo during late December, which is how the family usually gathers to see games).
Oct 14th 2010 5:30PM Vegas is overrated for the reasons listed here (also I haven't found their 'gourmet food' to be as good as they think it is). However, it is fun as hell for people watching and a decent base for going to various other interesting places, such as the Grand Canyon, Zion National Park, and Death Valley.

Aug 16th 2010 3:59PM I went with 'resort fees,' but am totally with the front desk people doing too much. On a stay at a decently upscale hotel recently I had to wait on average 10 minutes just for a cup of coffee (that I had to pay for!) due to this.
Oh, and the coffee was lousy.
May 4th 2010 4:09PM I got upgraded once because I was tired from a rowing practice. No idea what the moral of that story is.
