The Scare of Her Life: How Angelique Faced Heart Failure {MyDaily}
Feb 10th 2011 10:21PM Like Margorie JuGan, I also have post-polio sequelae. I was diagnosed with an aortic valve problem about 8 years ago, but it was considered minor. The doctors had a wait & see attitude all this time. I was in the hospital in 2008 for an bone infection & my heart was ok, it was ok in Nov of 2011. In Jan I saw my doctor, he took 1 listen to my heart & ordered an echo. It shows not only an aortic valve problem, but also aortic stenosis. I never had rheumatic fever, it's not congenital or age related. It may be due to the polio i contracted in 1950. I'm scared because my mom was diagnosed with an aortic valve problem in feb of 1993 & died at the Cleveland Clinic in July of 93 on the operating table. Women, don't take your heart for granted!!!! You never know when something "minor" turns into something "major". Be extra diligent & if your doctor doesn't seem to be too concerned, get a 2nd opinion, it could save your life.
