Name That Blame {Politics Daily}
Aug 29th 2008 10:57AM The whole "you are racist if you don't vote for Obama" is disingenous -- and an effort to collect "politically correct" votes.
That wasn't the dream of Dr King. The dream was to NOT be judged on color of skin but on content of character.

Wal-Mart Worried Obama Will Win {Politics Daily}
Aug 8th 2008 8:52AM What a hoot. The poor employees of WalMart need a union? And when they get one, and the prices at Wal-Mart go up to reflect that, have you considered the impact on the US economy?
Actions have consequences, people.
The reason WalMart can offer the prices it does are (1) the way it compensates its employees and (2) the prices it pays for its goods (i.e., el cheapo crap made in China).
Americans WANT low prices, yes? Well, we get what we pay for.
What if WalMart had to raise prices by 5% on average in order to pay better wages and give better benefits? Can you imagine the howling and wailing? The cries of "corporate greed!"?
On one hand, Wal-Mart offers people across the nation goods in their own towns at reasonable, even low, prices.
On the other hand, Wal-Mart is responsible for the homogenization of America, ruining Main Street USA, putting mom-and-pops out of business, stifling diversity, a large percentage of our trade deficit with China, and holding down wages of workers everywhere.
You pay your money and take your choice.
Personally, I believe shopping at WalMart is like shaking hands with the Devil, and I don't do it. But I pay more, too. That's my choice. Make you own, and don't whine about the consequences of it.
Hillary Won't Rule Out a Convention Vote {Politics Daily}
Aug 6th 2008 7:14PM I'm still laughing....
"Embarassing the actual candidate" -- huh?
#1, Barack Obama has not yet gotten the nomination, nor does he have the votes to do so -- yet. So he is actually "a" candidate, not "the" candidate.
#2, Barack Obama would be embarassed by a democratic vote? Imagine his terror at, say, a nasty phone call from some third-world dictator, or his horror of the disapproval of, say, the Mexican ambassador over our failure to do away with all border crossing checkpoints altogether.
Hillary Won't Rule Out a Convention Vote {Politics Daily}
Aug 6th 2008 7:04PM I just love this. It's great theatre, if nothing else.
Bring on the floor fight! I might actually watch some of this boring nonsense if that happens.
Let's have real mud-slinging, name-calling, elite-sniffing, back-room-dealing, vote-stealing, patriotism-questioning, minority-er-than-thou slugfest! American politics at its finest!
I wanna see Anne Coulter make the nominating speech for Hillary: "I think she's our girl!". Then maybe Hillary and Michelle Obama can arm-wrestle for the nomination -- or better yet, slip off for some back-room negotiations and return to the stage as the Clinton/Obama ticket -- Hillary/Michelle, that is!
Then Bill will say to Barack, "geez dude, that was lot of work just to keep the little women too busy to see what we are really up to! ::wink wink::" Then Bubba can teach Barack about barbeque, and Barack can teach Bubba how old white guys who dress in bespoke suits and handmade shoes and live in the Northeast are supposed to act.
It's perfect.
'Humiliated' passenger sues Continental Airlines {Gadling}
Jul 19th 2008 10:49PM I fly about 50,000 miles a year with Continental. They are the best airline I've ever flown, hands down. Oh sure, you occassionally get a grumpy flight attendant, but that's life.
For the most part, Continental has the best service, hands down. I'll be on one of their flights tomorrow morning from Boston to Houston, and I have every confidence my bags will arrive when I do (they've never lost my bags in half a million miles, unlike, say, United, which loses them over 50% of the time in my experience!), I'll have a nice meal (they are one of the few who still serve FREE real food, and good food at that in 1st Class), and my flight attendant will be solicitious of my comfort.
As for the drama queen who is suing them, I hope he/she loses and the judge then awards Conti damages for their time and trouble. There are a few passengers who deserve humiliation:)
Ryanair: Man forced to carry his wheelchair-bound wife onto plane after flight crew refuses to help {Gadling}
Jul 9th 2008 7:15PM I see people jumping to lots of conclusions here. The facts are not all in this story.
1. The lady in question told the airline she needed this device to board the plane. What we don't know is if the airline then arranges for the device or if it's the passenger's responsibility. We all have opinions on that, but what's the actual fact?
2. Who owns the Ambulift? The airport? The airline? An independent contractor? Who dropped the ball? The story does not say.
3. The airline has a policy of not physically carrying passengers onto airplanes. This seems reasonable to me in our lawsuit-happy world. And perhaps an employee or a would-be Good Samaritan might have carried this lady improperly, resulting in injury to her as well as to themselves. She even stated that what her husband did was "dangerous". Would it have been less dangerous done by an employee or fellow passenger?
4. If this is an airplane with steps, it must be a small plane. That being the case, how easy was it for any other passeger to come and assist? Were they strapped in their seats in a small metal tube, sitting in the summer heat, waiting through the delay? Were they allowed to get out of their seats, or would this have violated regulations and resulted in further delays? The article does not say, does it?
5. If this particular route isn't flown again for three days, obviously this is a small plane on an obscure route; and just as obviously many fellow passengers were likely concerned about this delay on their own connections and travel plans. Again, the article doesn't say why passengers did not help.
The bottom line is that there are not enough facts in this article to condemn anyone in this unfortunate situation.
Drunk American Airlines passenger grabs flight attendant's butt...in front of wife {Gadling}
Jun 27th 2008 2:34PM Heck, most people sleep after a drink or two on the plane. This guy had other problems.
I think that airlines ought to be able to ban passengers like him for life. Or maybe make them travel as "cargo" -- cuz we sure don't want him driving on the highways with the rest of us!
CompUSA employees adopt subtle, dignified method of saying farewell {Engadget}
Jan 9th 2008 8:58PM Yanno what? All these comments about the looks of the people being laid off... come on, people, what the heck does that matter? They are human beings who have done nothing wrong and are being put through hell. Have some compassion. Your turn may be coming.
Speaking as one who had it happen, it's horrible. It's like coming home to find your supposedly faithful spouse of ten years in bed with your supposedly best friend -- and you had no idea. It turns your life upside down and inside out.
Remember, what goes around comes around.
Sears Using Spyware to Monitor Your Personal Information {Switched}
Jan 7th 2008 3:59AM Mama Dee said: "I WILL NOT SHOP AT PLACES THAT WANT MY INFORMATION.
ALL THEY NEED IS BILLING INFO (no phone) AND
SHIPPING INFO PLUS AN EMAIL ADDRESS. BEYOND THAT
CANCIL YOUR AGREEMENT WITH THEM."
This isn't true.
I own an ecommerce company. Increasingly, the merchant banks (i.e., American Express, Master Card, Visa, etc.) are requiring the seller to get more information from the buyer. It's a security issue.
Personally, I do not trust a customer who'll give me their shipping address but gives a fake phone number or email address. You are thinking about companies scamming you, but let me tell you, as a seller I get scammed in some amazing ways.
AMEX now requires a billing address and the 4-digit number on the front of the card. They recommend getting a phone number (the one that they also have on file). MC and Visa also recommend a billing address, at least the billing zip code, a phone number. They require the CVC number from the back of the card. This is for the protection of both buyer and seller.
Right now, I have instances of people ordering things, receiving them (with the tracking to prove it), and then months later going to their card company to say they never ordered it or that their card was used without their knowledge. So guess who gets ripped off?
My advice to anyone is to have an "official" address and telephone number that you use only for personal business. In my case, my official address is a PO Box, and I use my home phone (which rolls over to voicemail always). Anyone who knows me knows my street address and cell phone number -- that's how to reach me. But that information doesn't get provided to any businesses.
