Why Speed Limits Are Irrelevant {Gadling}

Jul 18th 2012 11:46AM Thank you, but the safety "industry" is going to be outraged.

Nakation Nation: Nudist Resorts And Beaches Solve Airline Baggage Fee Woes {Gadling}

May 30th 2012 8:05AM I passed through a nude beach in St Martin to get to a strip of bars, ahem. Most of the naked sunbathers, at least those who were strolling about, should have been wearing clothing.

Airline Madness: Inattentive parents of crying babies vs. Obese people who take up two seats {Gadling}

Mar 19th 2012 11:44AM This is a tough choice, as they are my top two peeves about in-cabin experience.

Babies and first class: why is this an issue? {Gadling}

Mar 12th 2012 6:27PM If you every want to experience a collective groan, try sitting in a packed aircraft with a late arriving mother, an infant, and accessories. Nobody wants to sit anywhere near them. There is a remedy for the obese passenger - make them buy two seats. Pacifying an irritable baby, not an easy fix.

Intoxicated skiers force Aspen restaurant to impose drink limit {Gadling}

Feb 14th 2012 9:33AM "Considering the fact that Cloud Nine is located at an altitude of 10,740 feet, it is a wonder it has taken this long to institute a limit on the number of drinks that skiers can imbibe while lounging at the bar. "

I have been skiing or snowboarding in the Alps for the past 10 years, usually in Austria or Switzerland. Liquor is available in most mountain huts and restaurants. I have not seen a rash of drunken skiers weaving down the slopes - although the Apres-Ski scene at the base is frequently infested with drunk Brits behaving badly. Europeans have the attitude that you are responsible for your actions - reflected in the fact that lift tickets are significantly cheaper than in the US, issued without all the legal disclaimers ubiquitous in the US.

Video: Santa's elves take over an airBaltic plane {Gadling}

Dec 20th 2011 4:21PM Props! This is great - wished we could do that in the US, but you know how it is...

Obese passenger forces neighbor on US Airways flight to stand for 7 hours {Gadling}

Nov 23rd 2011 6:54PM The way I read the story, the obese person was taking up 2.5 seats, not just 2. Hard to tell. I sympathize with the displaced passenger. Nothing is more annoying than somebody crowding into what should be your personal space. The airlines need to install airline seats in the lounges, similar to carry on bag cages....

5 strategies for beating jet lag {Gadling}

Nov 1st 2011 11:21PM I frequently travel from the East Coast of the US to western and central Europe. That means an overnight over the Atlantic to arrive 8-10am local time. By noon, you are dead tired. I try to find hotels that allow an early checkin, and take a short nap, 2-3 hours. Then awake and clean up, then maybe do an afternoon meeting, dinner, and then to bed slightly early, say 10pm. By morning the next day, all is well.

Tourists behaving badly: Lost in translation in South Korea (video) {Gadling}

Aug 29th 2011 11:20PM Behavior like this is unfortunately not uncommon on busses in the US. Usually perpetrated by younger people however.

Cockpit Chronicles: Is it time for pilots to ditch the hat? {Gadling}

Mar 22nd 2011 10:47AM Hats that are functionless serve only as a fashion / uniform accessory. I'd buy the "air of authority" argument if the wearing of a visor cap was limited to those who are actually in a position of authority. Skycaps do not fall into that category.
