FAA reconsiders use of electronics on airplanes {Gadling}
Mar 19th 2012 1:52PM While I certainly understand your concern with people talking on cell phones and wouldn't like a plane full of people doing that, using possible technical interference as the reason to disallow it doesn't make sense. I've flown on private jets where we used our cell phones and other technology throughout the flight with absolutely not adverse impact. Also, remember how airlines used to tell you to cut off the "wifi" options on your laptops or mobile devices - well now they are selling inflight wifi services so that obviously wasn't a problem. Also, many may not know but people are already calling from planes. Many airlines have in-flight phones which can be used (for a hefty fee) to make a call and anyone with a brain can use Skype or similar such services to make phone calls while connected to wifi on the plane.
It all comes down to consideration but get used to it - people will be using cell phones during flight and many more electronics during take off and landing periods. There is no practical risk and it is something the airlines could offer that would be perceived as a benefit for passengers at no increased cost. Wear noise cancelling headphones if you don't want to be bothered with the phone calls!
Oh and Frank - I am so "tech obsessed" that I prefer not to turn off my kindle during take off and landings since this is no different than reading a "real" book or a newpaper!!!

Rising Oil Prices and Your Wallet {WalletPop}
Mar 1st 2011 6:24PM Lower your standard of living if you like but I prefer to keep mine at a high level. I don't have to cut back (no matter how high gas and related items get) so don't plan to do so. Oh yeah, I paid cash for my last house (7 figures) and my cars (including a Mercedes S550), have no debt and enough to retire on now in my early 50s. If you start saving and investing when you are in your early 20s (as I did), work hard, take risks, relocate for the right job and always seek to better yourself you will be fine regardless of prices that are out of your reasonable control. Then you don't have to buy an econobox and otherwise lower your standard of living just to get by!
Gunman Flees Las Vegas Casino with $32,000 in Chips {AOL Travel News}
Feb 26th 2011 2:57PM First of all there is no way you can support people that rob a casino or any other business. If you don't like casinos don't gamble but the fact people willingly lose money in them doesn't justify robbing them. Secondly, higher value chips have identification and sometimes RFIP chips that make it difficult to cash them. That is what tripped up the guy from Bellagio (along with his big mouth). Not sure what Rio determines as "high value" but it wouldn't surprise me if the $1000 chips are marked making them tough to cash. Remember that chips aren't worth anything until you convert them to cash. Finally, the people behind this have already been caught. Read story on front page of the Las Vegas Review Journal. Bottom line is very few people can get away with robbing a casino so don't try as you will end up in prison for a VERY long time - Nevada takes this very seriously as they should.
Bank of America Customers Hit With Yet Another New Fee {WalletPop}
Feb 24th 2011 3:06PM What's the problem with this? I don't know anyone that gets a printed copy of their statement, let alone copies of checks. With on-line banking (and BofA has a great website) there is no need to waste their cost, kill trees or potentially exposure yourself to identify theft by having statements mailed to you. I don't receive mailed statements from any financial institution - you can access it all on-line and print anything you want (including copies of checks)
Two Cents on Tipping: Who, When and How Much {AOL Jobs}
Sep 2nd 2010 10:46PM You and others like you need to understand that if you get a reputation for being cheap and not tipping expect poor service and you have no idea what can go on with your order in a kitchen. Trust me the staff finds a way to get even. Think about that next time!!
BTW, I am a 52 year old senior exec but worked as a waiter and bartender many years ago in college so I know the game. I suugest you get over your biases and tip per expectations. It is a cost of eating out or getting take out from a restaurant. To ignore or try to rationalize it just is cheap!!!
IRS reveals millionaires claiming unemployment benefits {WalletPop}
Jul 31st 2010 1:46PM TPR said to S Corp the business and pay SS, medicare, etc so you get those benefits. I agree you could add the unemployment tax to qualify for that but you don't need to S Corp to pay into SS and medicare (or be eligible for benefits). I have a sole proprietership and pay SS and medicare on all self employment income (at 15.3% instead of the 7.65% withheld by W2 employees). Of course I have already fully qualified for both since I have over 30 years employment including many that maxed out the payments for SS so I've locked in the top payments already. Of course that doesn't stop the government from taking 15.3% of everything I earn!

Can You Actually Use Your Frequent Flyer Miles? {AOL Travel News}
Jun 15th 2010 12:52PM Most people that have accumulated FF miles, like me, don't pay bag fees anyway since they aren't charged to elite members of the program.
