Jun 4th 2009 11:35AM Let me encourage you to ask your surgeon about belly wash chemo which was pioneered by Dr. Earl Surwitt while he was at Arizona Oncology in Tucson before his retirement a few years ago. As a result, our dauthere-in-law's mother is a survivor of state 4 ovarian cancer. Her CA-125 began in the 6400's, and she also had the bloating and digestive problems. In addition to the intravenous chemo, AZ Oncology surgeons insert a shunt to the abdomen through which the chemo is also injected. Then the patient lies on a table which shakes the chemo into every nook an cranny of the abdomen for direct contact with any cancer cells which may have remained and grew after surgery. Dr. Surwitt also prescribed that she take 8 melatonin, also green & white tea capsules and turmeric capsules which she does to this day. As important as the medication was, Dr. Surwitt's Daddy-Cheerleader Doctor encouragement with pep talks and big hugs were ever bit as healing. Other doctors need to learn this aspect of healing. She recently had surgery to remove a 2nd tumor found early via her 6 months scans and MRIs, but this one was fully encapsulated, and no further cancer cells could be detected. She is just about finished with precautionary chemo now. Dr. Judah Folkman discovered a whole new field of cancer treatment which shows much promise as well: angiogenesis inhibition. God Bless.
