Out of the country? Try the Havana Club {Gadling}
Jul 21st 2008 1:40PM I'm not a rum connoseur, and it's not that I don't drink rum, it's just that I have price resistance, so I cannot claim to have tried lots of rum....in reality, I've probably only had about 15-20 different types.
BUT, my favorite is Sailor Jerry's. I didn't find it until I moved to Atlanta from Michigan....I don't think we had it there. It's more potent (92 proof I believe) than most spiced rum...but I love the stuff!

Come to Michigan for vacation! Please? {Gadling}
Mar 25th 2008 2:43PM *sigh* I DO miss Michigan a lot. Lived there for 25 of my 27 years. Once I earn my kajillion dollars, I will buy some nice cottage between Grand Haven and Holland on the lakeshore to vacation for 4-5 months a year....*sigh*...
On rock 'n roll, John Mellencamp, and calling the Midwest home {Gadling}
Mar 11th 2008 2:22PM Thus far, I have spent 25 of the 27 years of my life in Michigan (always 40 minutes or less away from one of the Great Lakes). I relocated to the Atlanta area after college in hopes of job opportunities (and also closer to my wife's family) - and the jobs did come.
Once I had a move date set, I couldn't wait to leave Michigan...counting down the days at the end was all that kept me going. Now that I'm here, I don't miss the winters in the slightest, but I get so homesick in the summer...words cannot express how bad it gets. I get awfully sick of not seeing a true sunset/sunrise like I could in Michigan - whether it be over a cornfield or across a gorgeous freshwater lake that's as big and awe inspiring as any ocean vista. It beats the heck out of the clausterphobic feeling I get here.
I don't think I could move all the way back north due to the long winters, but I understand where the author is coming from - there is a saying in small towns across the Midwest: "Good earth, good people". There's an innocence in going to the local diner for a fish fry and rubbing elbows with the locals for awhile.
Sure, there is plenty out there I'd love to see, but I find myself wanting a small town to call home so that after being to far-off places, I can take comfort in knowing there's a peaceful spot waiting for me to lay my head. 2 years ago, I'd never have imagined I'd have that sentiment - so my wife and I are still trying to figure out where we want to be, maybe a small town on the Mid-Atlantic Coast that'd remind me a bit more of home (Michigan) and still remind her a bit more of her home (outskirts of Atlanta).
