Why you shouldn't be concerned about airport x-rays and patdowns {Gadling}

Nov 17th 2010 4:29PM I'll feel safer when everybody who steps foot on any kind of plane (private jet, airline, or crop duster) go through the same procedures we endure. I'll also stop complaining about the rape of my civil liberties and dignity when I see one of these scanners at the foot of Air Force One and watch the President and his family go through the process.
The circus at airports is not stopping anyone and is a sham.

Customer service slams airlines in overweight passenger policy enforcement {Gadling}

Jul 28th 2010 4:21PM I'm a big guy (OK, I'm fat). I'm not monstrous and don't overflow a seat. Even if there were open rules about girth and seating from the airlines, you still have the issue of uneven enforcement.
So many airline employees are over-worked an/or have a bad attitude or whatever, that I can't see an even-handed way to do this. Plus, how do you do this without stripping people of their dignity. "Sorry, sir, you need to sit in the fat seat so we can see if you fit?

Five free and cheap alternatives to expensive hotel Wi-Fi {Gadling}

May 10th 2010 4:47PM I was in Thailand and Cambodia last December and all the hotel I stayed at offered great, free wireless. And these were small independent properties.
It wasn't until I got to Hong Kong and stayed in a large chain property that I had to pay for access. And it sucked.

Apr 15th 2010 1:48PM Ah, but my friends seem to enjoy receiving gifts from different places in my travels! The trick is finding items small and fold-able.

Apr 14th 2010 12:18PM I was in Addis Ababa for a few days in 2008. I ate at a Ethiopian restaurant and very much enjoyed the food. Don't pass up the chance to sample the wonderful food.

Galley Gossip: Switching seats, exit row safety & asking for upgrades {Gadling}

Apr 14th 2010 12:09PM When I fly business, I always ask for A1 because I've been told this is an unpopular seat (don't know why!). I take the window seat and quite often the aisle seat is empty.
On one flight to Ft. Lauderdale, the attendant seated an obviously ill women next to me half way through the flight without a word to me.
I went and found the attendant and asked why the woman was seated next to me and what was wrong with her. He was curt in his answer and I asked to speak to the supervising attendant.
It really didn't disturb me that someone was sitting there, but it did really bother me that they would put an obviously ill person there without a word to me in explanation!

South by Southeast: 5 tips for Angkor Wat {Gadling}

Feb 22nd 2010 4:00PM I did the sunrise visit to the ruins and it was a vast disappointment. It was very overcrowded. The sunrise was definitely not worth getting up at 4:00 AM!

It did not explicitly say so in the original post, but get a guide! And make sure he or she is licensed. I arranged for a car, driver and guide and it ran about $34.00 for the day.
I also agree that you should wear comfortable shoes and drink lots and lots of water.
One final note; whether you are doing the sunrise or sunset viewing, be sure to bring a flashlight. there is absolutely no lighting at the temples!
