May 29th 2010 6:10PM Cumberland Island Beach is like stepping back in time. We live in New Smyrna Beach Fla and I tell folks when we go to CI, "this is what we were, long ago". Let's juust hope that it stays like it is now, forever!

May 14th 2010 7:02PM The good news is that you and a lot of other possible tourists believe the "shark bite capital" BS. The bad news is we have an unfounded reputation. One, nobody has ever died, lost a limb, or had more than a few stitches. Two, I live here and this is the one of the safest beaches in the world due to a strong life guard force. They tell me they have to report every bite though most are nothing, not even a shark. Most beaches do not have this report structure. Three, almost all of the bites occur near the small inlet on North beach where there are a multitude of surfers, and small sharks.
If you ever come to NSB you will discover a very wide, beautiful, active beach, where you can run, bike, play games,or walk. A gorgeous 13 miles of beach, best kept secret location in the world!

May 14th 2010 9:04AM While I admit NSB is crowded on week ends, especially north of 27th Ave, it's pretty sparse during the week. On week days, I run south of 27th for miles and see very few people all the way to Bethune.

May 14th 2010 8:45AM I love beaches. I learned that I don't want to spend time at a beach where I have to wear a wet suit to swim in the cold water! NorCal and Oregon are examples. That's why we moved from Bay Area to New Smyrna Beach, FL to retire.

Dec 21st 2009 7:37PM Absolutely rediculous that she should be suspended. This is a case where image overcomes reality. They wear shorts and t shirts for goodness sakes! She can thank God there is no public beach in AZ, because the beach would show a lot more than Hooters Restaurant. I have no problem taking my teen age daughter to Hooters for a fun time and great chicken wings!
