National Park Service conducts 11 search and rescue operations per day! {Gadling}

Dec 18th 2009 10:05AM Having lived in close proximity to the Blue Ridge Parkway and GMSNP for years and belonging to 2 volunteer search and rescue teams, I wonder about the minimal use of volunteer teams by the NPS. Would this help defer some of the cost? What is the reason for not calling on local teams?
