You're right, I don't have kids. But I'm a nanny. And both of those kids know that running in the house isn't ok. They know not to run up and down the stairs. They know to use their inside voices until I tell them it's ok to shout. They know the rules, they obey them. No, they're not little robots. They are well-mannered children who obey rules set forth by the person in charge. Yes, children will be children, but it's up to you, the caregiver, to decide what kind of children they will be. Mine are quiet and rule-abiding. End of story.

After all, the point of the season is to take time off from things and be with your family and loved ones.
