A Traveler in the Foreign Service: Ding Dongs and danger pay in Kosovo {Gadling}
Jan 24th 2012 6:37PM Dave, reading your posts with something of a semi-nostalgic, semi-FS brat smile since my step-father was a FSO in the 60-80s. That whole calculation about where to stop on a road trip in Europe that would have an American base and a PX and commissary is a major part of my teen memories, but I guess nowadays much less a possibility with the reduction of US forces since the Clinton era. I was wondering, if you've blogged at all - if not as a main blog topic, at least in passing - on the question of how living and working in a career abroad is different from the visiting traveler experience as far as how it allows you or doesn't allow you to write? Just asking, because I have another relative who joined the FS in more recent years - just as a staff specialist - and discovered that the ideal of "work abroad and write as well" wasn't such an easy balance after all. Meanwhile, I wish you well, and a different fate from her.

Aug 22nd 2010 11:02PM No, Laborde, that's not the reality of what's happening at all. Nice try though. I'm sure you'll be preaching the secret of higher traffic tho to your fellow arrogant assholes -- oops, "community".

Aug 16th 2010 9:24AM Which of course doesn't take into account the fact that there's more than one full address link purposefully provided in this thread with a view to driving traffic. Someone just ahead of you - Labord - provides one such to a new blog of his own spun off this one with a clear awareness of the traction he might pick up from here. Old antics.

Aug 14th 2010 6:00PM @craventravels - perhaps you need context yourself, since you seem (or feign?) unawareness of the fact that Matt Kepnes takes $$ from Kim Mance (aka Kim@Galavanting) for her TBEX affairs, so those two are complicit in anything & that's reflected here yet again. Anything that puts Matt Kepnes in the spotlight is just more traffic to his online presence & thereby more traffic to Mance's next yr shindigs. See how that works? So in a nutshell, they both love the drama & attention b/c all publicity is good publicity when it's all about traffic.
