Apr 19th 2010 10:29PM I agree with you. The government should not legislate carry-on bag fees. They deregulated the airline industry in 1978 and should leave it that way. The market will determine if they will pay the fee or not. You can bet if Spirit does get away with the fee, then the others will follow suit.
On the other hand, they are trying to encourage people to check their bags instead of competing for limited overhead space.
Most airlines are not making money and passengers are resistant to fare increases. I don't know how long they can continue to operate without a profit.

Nov 22nd 2009 10:28AM This is all a knee jerk reaction to one very unusual incident. As far as I know, the final results are not in from the investigation regarding whether or not they were actually on their laptops or something else ...and we may never actually know.
You are right to point out that there are already appropriate procedures in place and that professionals will not notice any difference. My experience as an international pilot tells me that this one just slipped through the cracks.
As a rule, pilots are professionals. We pride ourselves not only on safety but also on the smoothness of the flight and landing. It makes my day when someone compliments me on a nice, smooth landing.

Nov 16th 2009 8:38AM My mouth is watering.
I usually find the best food at these 'dives'. Whenever I travel, I go straight to the street vendor or local favorites. That's where I find the best food and interesting people.
Hope to make it to Austin soon.
