Contempt for fat people - not only wrong, but ignorant {WalletPop}

Aug 21st 2009 3:47PM My grandfather was one of the slimest people I ever knew. He ate more food than anyone I know but he was also very active farming and doing other manual labor. The people I know who have desk jobs that eat like my grandfather did are not slim. It doesn't take a genius to figure that one out, nor does it take reaching back thousands of years to find the root cause of the difference in weight.

I don't have contempt for fat people, but the viewpoint in this story epitomizes what's wrong with our society. Instead of taking personal responsibility, we blame our problems (whatever they are) on something else. Nothing that's bad in life is ever the fault the person that it happens to. I understand that being fat can be blamed on a lot of things - sedentary lifestyle, over-eating, genetics/bad role models, medical conditions or any number of things that a person does/doesn't do (maybe they just got dealt a raw deal in life). However, having some wack blog person write that it's most likely because our ancestors were hunter/gatherers that experienced famine is ridiculous and not helpful to anyone, much less the person who actually comes here for advice on life.

Finally, I find it hysterical that you would actually write about people expressing hatred in the comment section. I'm probably hateful because of my critical comments, but I also believe that the statement wouldn't be necessary if the article was actually based on science, more thoroughly researched, or disclaimed as opinion/mindless babble.

If government can cut costs, we all can {WalletPop}

Aug 8th 2009 12:22PM This is the most ridiculous article I've ever read. Because you and everyone else knows that when the government "saves" money in one area, it spends an extra 2-1000X more in another area.

Wal-Mart, is that a frog in my green beans? {WalletPop}

Jul 23rd 2009 9:41AM I agree with Joseph, however, I don't want to judge the woman's initial motivations either. I don't think that calling Wal-Mart to report the problem is a bad thing (maybe they should recall the lot), and I would get mad too if Wal-Mart did not responding to my call for days. She also indicated that the corporate service reps weren't much help either.

I think the whole thing has been blown out of proportion because Wal-Mart didn't handle the situation correctly the first time. If they had, the woman may not have overreacted. Wal-Mart should know that this response is (unfortunately) the norm and that they would get bad press over it.

Heroes: Turn and Face the Strange {TV Squad}

Apr 7th 2009 11:07AM I'm not trying to be a hater b/c I still love the show, but I'm not sure why the "shapeshifting" ability is so important. Doesn't Syler already have a similar ability that he picked up when he killed Candice in the second (or third) volume? Did they forget about that, or am I not remembering correctly? That ability was better anyway b/c you could change the whole surrounding, not just your body.

25 things vanishing in America, part 2: Alleys {WalletPop}

Apr 3rd 2009 9:23PM I once lived on a street with an alley as an adult, so my opinion is probably skewed a bit, but I didn't like it. In that neighborhood, everyone had 8-ft privacy fences, so you never knew what was going on with your neighbors. It seemed like everyone would pull into their garage, close it, and then hang out in their backyard. No one was ever out on the street or visiting.

I don't really like the look of front facing garages, but in my current neighborhood, having them has seemed to open up the community.

Will more time make the digital TV transition any easier? {TV Squad}

Jan 28th 2009 12:18AM I wholeheartedly disagree with the statement that "At this point, even the most casual observer has figured out that the transition hasn't been communicated very well to the American public."

Anyone who watches local channels without a DVR knows about the transition due to the onslaught of commercials. These are the people who rely on OTA broadcasting and who will be impacted by the transition. If you haven't watched your local channels in a while, you wouldn't know about the commercials. You also won't be impacted because you either don't watch TV or you have cable/satellite.

Review: 2009 Dodge Ram Laramie Crew Cab 4X2 {Autoblog}

Jan 22nd 2009 12:33PM Did the Tundra outsell the Ram or was it that [Tundra + Tacoma] outsold [Ram + Dakota]? This post makes it out like the Tundra outsold the Ram, but I don't think that's right.

AT&T dreams of single smartphone OS, will probably keep dreaming {Engadget}

Dec 5th 2008 12:23PM To: konshuss - I think the point was that any "AT&T" branded smartphone will have one OS. AT&T sell smartphones made by no-name companies from Asia as an "AT&T xyz". This is different than selling a Blackberry that may have an AT&T logo painted on the shell. When it's a blackberry, RIM helps provide support. If it's AT&T only, they have to provide all of the support.

GM still doesn't get it {WalletPop}

Nov 26th 2008 10:44PM There are several reasons that GM doesn't seem to get it, and those arguments could be made and debated all day long; however, this article seems to be off in left field and uninformed.

First, the range on the Volt is closer to 400 miles on a total charge/full tank of gas, not 620. The tank is 8 gallons, so that is 50 mpg if you drive the car 400 miles without recharging it. If your commute is less than 40 miles a day and you recharge it every night, you're looking at not buying gas for months at a time.

Second, GM sells hybrids in several different segments. Honda has only had the Civic hybrid for several years now. The previous Insight hasn't been available for a while, and the Accord hybrid was more performance oriented (like the Lexus 600H) than fuel-economy oriented.

FYI...I drive a Honda Accord and and my wife has an Acura TL.
