'Armored' Sparks Debate: How Are Iraq War Vets Portrayed in Movies? {Moviefone Blog}
Nov 23rd 2009 8:42PM I am a Vietnam Veteran who suffers from severe Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.I did not bring it on myself by electing any officials to Washington, nor did I go into combat with the idea of becoming a hero. And no, at nineteen years old I didn't have a clue as to the human cost of war. These kids (and yes they are still kids) in Iraq and Afghanistan can't possibly have any idea either. To hold them somehow personally responsible for the physical and psychic wounds they may incur is both ignorant and cruel. It is too late for the Vietnam vets, but please Fred, give these soldiers the support and understanding they will so desperately need when they come home. They are important. The politics are secondary.
Thailand Hitler billboard draws controversy {Gadling}
Oct 20th 2009 8:10PM It is a sad commentary on our values when commercial venues try to cash in on the reputation of the worst villain of the twentieth century. We all know what Hitler represents, the worst impulses of man. We need to remember him, only because future generations need not to repeat these criminal actions; but remembering him like this goes beyond the pale. And no, I am not a Jewish survivor of the Holocaust, only an Italian Catholic trying desperately to raise my children with a sense of brotherhood and values that reflect the best man has to offer, not the worst.
