Net neutrality wins: FCC to vote yes unanimously on open internet rules {Daily Finance}

Oct 22nd 2009 2:59PM Tracie,

It's not the gov we need to fear here: it's the companies who want control of the net. Imagine if AOL or Sprint or Google or Microsoft had control of what you could surf. Suppose your search results were limited to only what they wanted you to see? How long would it be before you had to pay to get anything on the net? Think of it in terms of TV. Can you put anything on TV for others to watch? No way. Even though the law says a certain portion of the TV airwaves have to be set aside for "public access and use," it's a joke. Do you have a blog? What if you had to pay to get it listed on any search engine? That's what will happen if big business takes over the net.

Foods 50% sugar still labeled smart choices? FDA warns: Red light! {WalletPop}

Oct 22nd 2009 2:49PM Try this next time you buy food: look at the label and see if it contains "High-Fructose Corn Syrup." If it does, put it back on the shelf. The stuff does you no good at all, and you are much, much better off without it. But you'll find it's in just about EVERYTHING. The food manufacturers are not even close when it comes to providing us with decent info about what's in the food they are giving us.

Varvatos, Hilfiger & More at Oceana New York Launch {Luxist}

Oct 21st 2009 6:22PM Any thing that helps our environment is fine by me. Too much destruction has taken place already; it will be generations before we solve the problems, if ever.

Tag Your Facebook Friends! The Ultimate Collection of Photos From the Tagging Meme {Urlesque}

Oct 21st 2009 6:08PM Enough of the tags! Labeling sucks, even when it's in fun. It's like a little friendly dig, over and over and over. It gets old.

The Upside: Habits of the rich and thin {WalletPop}

Oct 21st 2009 6:03PM My own theory is that obesity is an economic problem. For example, the latest gov stats say 1 in 6 Americans is below the poverty line. And when you don't have money, you buy cheap food. And cheap food will just about explode your insides with extra fat, carbs, useless calories, and whatever else it contains (like high-fructose corn syrup. Ever check the labels? HFCS is in everything.)

When my wife and I started eating healthier, our combined weight dropped 90 pounds in six months. But our food bill skyrocketed. Fresh fruit and vegetables cost way more than canned, and raw food you actually have to cook costs way more than frozen dinners.

I know it's not all economics, of course. Pure laziness plays a big part too. It's more work to shop healthy and prepare healthy meals.

But the biggest factor is exercise: we never exercise enough in this country. The author of this article is absolutely correct in saying even a little is far better than nothing at all.

Report Reveals That Men Like When Women Work; We Reveal Why {Lemondrop}

Oct 21st 2009 12:29PM "When women can't work for a decent-sized paycheck, women can't live alone, but often have to live with a parent or in some kind of dormitory. This means the opportunities for sex are few and some are sadly car-based."

LOL at that one. What exactly are you saying here? That men want women to work because it's easier to get them into bed? Or that women like to work because it gives them a place for sex? Too funny...and here I am thinking people worked for careers, personal satisfaction, self-fulfillment, etc...

Chipotle rolls out rooftop solar plan: A new era of green fast food joints? {Daily Finance}

Oct 21st 2009 11:30AM Out here in sunny southern California, it is insanity NOT to be using solar power. I mean, come on; these big box stores out here use tons of lighting inside the store, when they could be using simple skylights to help illuminate the interior. I walked through a new big-box store, recently built, and not one skylight was used. Just a million feet (it seemed) of fluorescent lights. Ridiculous.

Sex in Airplanes? There's a Website for That {Urlesque}

Oct 21st 2009 11:08AM I agree with some of the other posters: sex in a filthy cramped toilet? Romance at its finest! I mean, come on, people; you can't wait until checking in at the hotel?
