The fine art of travel sketching {Gadling}
Apr 26th 2010 12:34PM My traveling companion, Todd Berman, never stopped drawing as we traveled around the world. You can check out his art here: http://ephemerratic.com/art.html
Sitting and drawing is also a great way to meet people. Kids especially will want to see what you're doing - and even have you draw their picture.
Todd's an artist at home, so he always draws when we're on the road. He even got some commissions so he was able to write off some of our trip's expenses on his taxes. Now that's a way to save for travel!
Forty-two hours on a train in China {Gadling}
Nov 12th 2009 2:34PM I love to travel in countries where trains are common ways to get around. In the US, trains are inefficient and expensive, if they exist at all for where you want to get to, which they usually don't. If only we had the option of even your long and thirsty train ride here, Americans could kick the car habit.
10 tips for traveling as a couple - and not breaking up {Gadling}
Nov 5th 2009 3:05PM Your "Plan together" tip is spot on, though I think it should really be called "Plan together, plan apart." The divide and conquer the planning strategy was what made my year-long round-the-world trip with my husband work. Our friends have been very impressed that we didn't kill each other, and planning apart was the trick.
It took us a couple of months to recognize my strength was planning ahead, his was planning the immediate. So, he figured out where we were going that day, how we were getting there, while I took care of when we needed to move to the next destination, flights, hostels. It worked out that I got the days off and he got the nights.
