What's This Hullaballoo over AMC Theatres and 'Alice in Wonderland'? {Cinematical}
Feb 28th 2010 7:21PM Personally, I find this whole ISSUE embarassing as a whole from a Capitolistic point of view. I agree with the viewpoints of Margo and Kevin; and might even wager that I am of "a certain age" with Margo & growing up in NYC. Does anyone remember CINERAMA????? Yes, growing technology has made the home "theater experience" very elaborate and for those who choose to view their films in that format - fine. But going "out" to the movies is like "going out to eat" - it's an event. Here again, you can CHOOSE - lucky you!!!! - - - if money is tight and you have a large family. Don't take away my IMAX & 3D and I fear as Kevin explains that as the time shortens between theatrical and DVD release, it will the theaters who are squeezed and they will simply start closing down. What a sin THAT would be.
What's the Most Embarrassing Movie You Ever Watched With a Parent? {Lemondrop}
Oct 26th 2009 12:46AM Well, I think my comment would win first place ahd this been a true competition. Since my parents were both natives of Denmark, we went there to visit our extended family and
I was 17 years old. One evening after dinner, the adults decided to see a movie that had recently come to Denmark. So off went my aunt, uncle, 15-year old female cousin, my mother and father and most mortifying, my maternal GRANDMOTHER. As I was planning a career in Medicine, I was intrigued by the title, but was in for the shock of my LIFE as the (now) famours (infamous?) movie: DEEP THROAT commenced playing on the screen. Much of it was (and still is) a blur, but I clearly remember the fireworks at the end, along with bells gonging; with perhaps "The Stars and Stripes" playing in the background!
British Airways offers free companion fare {Gadling}
Oct 3rd 2009 4:36AM This one has to take the cake! The Federal Aviation Administration has to step in SOON before travelers are nickled and dimed to death. Some of the inacted measures seem reasonable, but for budget-conscious travelers (which in today's economy is most of us); the very least we can expect on a 10 hour flight is to sit next to our spouse, significant other, ELDERLY PARENT, friend without having to pay an additional fee. Personally I want to see ALL the airlines invoke a surcharge for overweight passangers, which is no different than that for overweight luggage. The theory behind it is the same. When checking in, one would simply have his or hers BMI checked and for each point over a reasonably decided figure, the fee would increase EXPONENTIALLY. Come on AIRLINES - let's see you attack that SIGNIFICANT PROBLEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
