Bolshoi in Russia: In Cyrillic, American fastfood chains suddenly look exotic {Gadling}

Jun 1st 2008 2:20PM what i hear is that, yes, there is a requirement (in moscow and st. petersburg, at least, although there's a national advert law too) that if you post the name of your place on an outdoor sign, it must be in cyrillic, however, there's nothing to stop you from also registering the name as a trademark and advertising that trademark. (so, "enjoy" is probably a registered trademark in russia.)
and i'm sure some companies use the cyrillic just to help the local customers with their foreign names.

for the more legally-inclined: http://www.cipr.org/activities/articles/using_cyr_tm.htm

Foreigner gambling in Atlantic City? Must bring passport {Gadling}

Mar 30th 2008 2:49PM lame excuse, Borgata. if i pay $500 a night on a hotel room, i would expect to be treated as such.
my immediate reaction is a) if he was causing trouble, sure, kick him out, but b) if he's not, your FRONT DESK accepted his French ID AND HIS CREDIT CARD for the $500 per night stay, so why can't he be in the casino??? how about warning him when he made the reservation? lame, lame, lame excuses.

Nick--egg on your face, since the blog facts have been verified by the Borgata. go hide now.

Your skis might still come in handy {Gadling}

Mar 17th 2008 3:32PM comparing 2007 european skiing with 2008 is not the greatest idea. 2007 was one of the worst years--if not the worst--on record.

Nov 29th 2007 10:58AM great stuff. what always killed me, walking by, watching people stroking that relief was why they also rubbed the dog (which is just to the left of St. Jan of Nepomuk, and not in this picture). i guess it's kind of like rubbing the balls of the bull near Wall Street: somebody sees someone else doing it and it catches on.
a secret? a few paces down to the right, on the railing of the bridge, are the stars signifying where St. Nepomuk actually went into the drink. rub those instead. (supposedly, stars appeared in the water where he sank.) or, just follow the heard.
