Go, Fight, Win! Beating Doesn't Break Boy Cheerleader's Spirit {ParentDish}
Sep 29th 2010 2:10PM I hate how kids are so cruel at such young ages. I'm here for ya, Tyler. The problem with my situation was that I was told never to hit back, no matter what the circumstances. I know better now. All he needs to do is to put some of that gymnastics training to good use and use it to kick that kid's a$$.
High School Strips Transgendered Homecoming King of Title {Lemondrop}

Do Toning Shoes Really Work? {That's Fit}
Aug 11th 2010 2:51PM I love New Balance shoes! They are definitely the most comfortable sneaker I have ever worn, and this is coming from a girl that has diagnosed flat feet. I really like how they will support an arch even in the most awkward of positions. Mind you they aren't cheap, but a good shoe rarely is!
Packing List for College: What to Forget & What Not to! {Shopping Articles Blog}
Jul 29th 2010 8:32AM Myra,
If you're still there, email me at jb321004@ohio.edu, and we can discuss the details. I actually live in Jackson, OH which isn't much more than a half-hour from campus.
Packing List for College: What to Forget & What Not to! {Shopping Articles Blog}
Jul 28th 2010 3:53PM I wouldn't necessarily bring an upright vacuum. But I did have one of those Hoover Dirtdevil handvacs with the fillable bags. Worked wonders for getting those crumbs out of the area rug. UGH! Also used extra laundry baskets under the bed to store nonperishable food (dorm had very little drawer and cabinet space at all) and also brought a small TV cart to hold the TV and store other things underneath.
For those of you worried about bringing some of your more cherished items, get a small fully enclosed cabinet with those push-in hold type doors and put an eye lock on it with a luggage lock. They usually have shelves inside as well as shelves on the inside of the doors. Used mine during college to store my DVDs and my checkbooks among other things. Worked great and it was definitely too heavy when full to move much of anywhere. If anyone would like a 'lock box' (as I call them) I'm actually looking to sell my two, now that I'm officially out of college and have a home with a safe. Reply to me if you'd be interested.
Graduated from Ohio University two years ago.
What Are the Summer Outfits You Hate Seeing Guys Wear? {Lemondrop}
Jul 2nd 2010 2:46PM What about that trend a while ago that was the guys wearing the jeans/pants/shorts just barely hanging off the end of their butt! Is it just me or were half of them just begging to be pants-ed right then and there?
Weather Channel vs. Dish Network: Storm Warning for Viewers {AOL TV}
Jun 2nd 2010 9:26AM I am a Dish subscriber also, but I was wondering if you have the local interactive weather ability I do. I thought all did, but maybe not. It's basically this, you turn to the Weather Channel and - depending on where you are - wait up to 15 minutes for a little info. icon to appear on the screen that says something like 'press ok for local weather' or something of the like. Thing is I think you only get this interactivity (word?) if you have your DVR box also hooked into your phone line through those filters they send you with your (in my case dual channel) DVR.
The best part of this is all you have to do is know your ZIP code (or one nearby) and it will give you current weather, today's weather, a 5-day outlook, a city lookup, and a small (non-moving) radar map.
Call Dish if you want this. I know I don't pay anything extra for this.
Does it Make Sense to Pay Your Mortgage Down Early? {Housingwatch}
Mar 24th 2010 9:12AM Technically, if i want my mortgage to work it's hardest for me, it's best I not try to pay off my mortgage early. This is because I'm part of a program that is run by the state of Ohio that allows me to get back a certain percent of the interest paid into the mortgage back as an immediate tax credit separate from the federal interest tax credit. It's called a Mortgage Credit Certificate (or MCC) and it's worth every tiring hour of paperwork to get it. My parents had one om their first home and, now, I do too. While I'm unsure what other states implement this similar kind of program, it's worth calling and talking to a state tax representative about.
Student loan debt fear made me skip fancy schools for a free one {WalletPop}
Mar 22nd 2010 3:41PM I went to one of the few schools who accepted my scholarships. I never looked back. And I'm far from sorry. $14k for a four-year education. Who can beat that?
I Quit My Sorority Because They Accused Me of Being Anorexic {Lemondrop}
Mar 19th 2010 10:20AM I was a pledge twice for the same 'professional co-ed fraternity,' and considering they kicked me out for thinking that they took that phrase literally, I guess I can use that term very loosely.
I mean, yeah, probably bringing my homework with me to a party so that one of the bigs could help me with a tough problem probably wasn't the smartest move, but there's the phrase again. I wasn't the party queen, but at least I was willing to put up a fellow pledge for the night because he wasn't steady on his feet enough to walk downhill eventhough I was sick (literally, not with drink) myself.
They kicked me out the first time because supposedly if one person thinks you won't fit in, you're not allowed to join, even after all the good you've done for the frat. Who are they kidding? You have to deal with people in industry you don't like all the time! Why not start in college so you're used to diffusing those kinds of situations?! Luckily, one of the original bigs and one of my first pledge brothers told me to try again, that maybe it would change whoever-it-was's mind due to my persistance, but that it would be a challenge. I'll admit I was still in my wallflower stages the first time, so I tried again. Same thing happened the second time, but the second time, either I didn't convince the first person or I pissed someone off.
I will say one thing though, I was deeply moved after I was blackballed the second time. I was told that after the decision was handed down, the pledge master and Nipples (that was my big sis's initiation name) were both so mad that they started throwing chairs across the room.
Not only that, my whole pledge class came up to my dorm room and asked what had happened. I told them that I wasn't sure who it was, but I thought that it had something to do with standing up for our pledge vice-president-turned-president when they kept handing her tasks one after another after another - on her first day as president no less. I had pissed me off beyond belief to the point that I said 'Hey, come on' before the pledge master finally broke in and said something. Hard enough losing a pledge brother, but then to be expected from the get-go to fill his shoes fully?! Smart girl quit the next day. In my last words of wisdom to my second pledge class, I told my pledge brothers to continue on and become members and to not let what happened to me to ever happen again, to let them know they need to take the word 'professional' seriously.
I credit my original pledge brother John Brewster with writing me a letter, saying that alot of the bigs had been pulling for me because I'd stepped up from last time and that after hearing the verdict he'd never felt less pride at being a member than he was that day. To this day, I still cherish that letter. I hope Theta Tau's national council starts telling their chapters to take the phrase 'professional fraternity' seriously, because if not, they'll be recruiting nothing but 'party-goers' instead of serious students.
I was kicked out of a professional fraternity for not being enough of a partyer! Does anyone else see the irony here?!
