Aug 16th 2010 1:06PM I work at IBC and the overdraft fees are how IBC pays us bonuses and anything to do with awards. Lets say you have $100.00 in your account. You use your card in the morning and make 3 different charges of $5.00, $6.00 , and another for lets say $2.50, Well it should be fine right? I mean you have the cash to cover that right? Well at 8:00 pm that evening you also charges unexpectedly $101.0 to you account. Guess what? IBC will take that $101.00 out first and then the smaller charges for that day. So you now have Overdraft charges for all 4 charges. If they would have just let the smaller ones clear, then you would only end up with one OD charge for the $101.00. So yes its very screwed up, but Im just a teller, not the one that makes the policies but I have been told that that is the reason they pull the larger amount out first. They need the OD charges for the bonuses ect.
