Sep 20th 2009 2:22PM Been there. Agreed, there is an eerie feeling about the place (Halloween is quite the day there...), but my husband and I both thought it a fake. (The tall trees and expansive nature add to the general creepiness of the place...especially if there are no other tourists around. Kinda spooky...as the sun sets.) The Colonial Era theory sounds right; why not pitch it as just that? Guess it makes money this way...evidence the large gift shop.
