Purely by accident, I found a speakeasy that served food during the day illegally. It was a smorgasbord of food unfamiliar to me, but a fascinating treat after months of shipboard food.

Jun 16th 2010 2:52AM As far as I know, the USCG has spent nothing or very little for administrative or coordination costs. Australia is stuck with the lion's share of the bill for this fiasco. All Australia can do is hope that if some Australian clown is in trouble on the sea in some other part of the world, then other governments will pick up the search and rescue tab to help their citizen. That is the agreement civilized nations have to assist mariners and airmen in distress. The ocean is a dangerous environment.

Jun 16th 2010 2:07AM The Australian government is stuck with the tab and has no legal recourse to recover the significant bill for a chartered aircraft. The jerk parents get off without having to pay for the mess they created.
