1. Beta is a genetically engineered creature that unexpectedly harbored extrasensory abilities, re: everyones hallucinations, which actually turn out to shape physical reality, at least to each individual. The hope was that Beta, once delivered to Venus, would shape reality to change the hellish atmosphere and environment of Venus to livable Earth type conditions.
2. Beta is an alien, either found by or initiated contact to the government. It wants to either get home or bring humanity to Venus where it's shown that Venus, being Earth's orbital equivalent distancewise from the sun, is actually indeed much more like Earth than we thought, a living planet with an advanced society that was "cloaked" from us as an inhospitable desert till the mission arrived there. Beta was dormant for much of the trip, its advanced mental capabilities while "asleep" sensing human brainwaves and causing the crew's hallucinations as a side effect.
How's that?

Jul 21st 2009 2:13AM Ok, what all of you haven't been told is this video has been freely available on the web SINCE MARCH. And yah, I've seen it. The supposed "peephole" looks like it's 2 frikkin' inches wide -she can't see a huge gaping maw in the door/wall like that? That's typical of the fake "voyeur" videos.
It's not through a keyhole. Keyholes don't even exist anymore. And you CAN'T film backwards through a hotel door peephole, they're only one way, remember? Duhh! And even if the guy was, that would mean he was out in the hallway, where people passing by, and more importantly the hotel SECURITY video, should have a record of someone pressing a cellphone or camcorder up to the door peephole (which, as said before, is impossible).
This whole thing reeks of publicity stunt. I call bullsh*t. Your 15 minutes are about up, honey.

Nov 12th 2006 5:44PM In response to Susan who thought Mahir was an imitator: Mahir Cagri was on Letterman and other talk shows several times in the mid 90's after his website caught international attention. You had to be living under a rock not to have seen it - where were you? Even if Sascha Baron Cohen (Borat) made his first ripoffs in the late 90's, he's so CLEARLY and OBVIOUSLY ripping off Mahir it's not even funny. Even has the same mustache. I hope Mahir gets a huge chunk of cash.
