Lexus cancels next-gen SC, Toyota cancels next Avalon {Autoblog}

Jul 12th 2008 12:38PM Seems most people comment on cars that they have never driven, must less owned. Stop being an online troll. Having owned an SC, I have to say it was the best car i have ever owned. The quality was outstanding, the day i gave it up it felt as it did i got it. Something I cant say for the 2 M3s (E36 and E46) I have owned. People say oh, it doesnt have a manual, bla, bla, bla. NOT EVERY ONE WANTS A MANUAL TO DRIVE ALL THE TIME. Its not the fastest either, boohoo. Its just the , IMHO, the best 'quality' car in its catagory. And yes, I have driven the SL, drive my friends 2007 SL all the time, its a great car, very sexy, and fun to drive, when its not in for service for the doors not unlocking..... Seems people that can least afford a car always have something nasty to say. The reason sales are next to nothing is 1, it hasnt been replaced in 8 years and 2, the leases are out of wack. When my lease was up the numbers i got on a replacement were about $1300/mo, compared to $946 on the one i was returning, same specifics. I am sure 90% of SCs are leased, as with most luxury cars.

Canadian mini-satellite promises to detect Earth-destroying asteroids {Engadget}

Jun 27th 2008 5:16PM umm, is finding "90 percent of the 95,000 near-Earth "space rocks" that are at least 140 meters in diameter before 2020" good eneogh? From the way i see it, 99% isnt even good for what the potential outcome would be......why leave settle for less than 100%

Sprint to sell off assets due to subscriber defections? {Engadget}

May 13th 2008 4:25PM hmmm.....worst customer service I have ever encountered and the worst handset selection.....And they only lost 1 miilion customers?? Wait till next quarter. But seriusly, Nextel is one foot in the grave and the other foot is on a banana peel. They havent had a new Blackberry in 3 years, and the regular handsets? anything really new? nope. On CDMA, when there was a run on the RAZR, they still wouldnt carry Motorola phones. Listen, i know the RAZR had its problems, but the PEOPLE wanted. I currently use T-mobile and Verizon and they have the best customer service. I would never go back to Sprint EVER. EEEVVVVVVEEEERR.

Texan arrested for mobile calls on aircraft {Gadling}

May 13th 2008 4:00PM There is ZERO chance that a cell phone, or any electronic device can cause any harm to an airline in flight. if it did, I guarantee 2 things, 1, that planes would be falling out of the sky on a daily basis, since i am sure many people forget to turn off their phones before takeoff, and 2, that if there was even a .01 percent chance of this happening, the FAA would mandate wireless/RF detectors on all airlines. I have gotten and sent text messages for years on flights, when signal was available, and am still here, and have made calls from my Iridium SAT Phone, and guess what? nothing happened.

Lenovo to outsource all laptop production to Taiwanese suppliers {Engadget}

Jan 21st 2008 1:30PM I currently have a IBM t40, IBM t42 and Lenovo t61. The quality of the t40 and t42 are far superior to the t61. Even the initial quality of the t61 was poor. When it arrived there was a huge bulge in the center top between the keyboard and dispay bezel. Onsite service came to fix it and found there was large piece of tape left in there by accident. Another item that has gone down are the keyboards, the t61's keyboard feel is very poor, compared to the t40 & t42. If you ever had a 'old' IBM thinkpad, you know how good those keyboards are.

New York City shops for next generation taxi at Detroit Auto Show {Autoblog}

Jan 19th 2008 5:16PM The NYC taxi business is different from the rest of the country. First of all, the cost of the vehicle is nothing compared to the cost of the medallion to become a taxi. Current auctions have had medallions go for over $300k. NYC also did a comparision of fuel costs in 2005, and based on gas at $3/gal a driver would save $5k a year if they were using a Prius. Savings would be 30% more since gas is almost $4 gal in NYC. NYC medallion regulations also require a taxi to be no older than 3-5 years , so there almost no old police cars as taxis in NYC. Most taxi trips in NYC are very short and almost all trips are manhattan to manhattan. Try asking a taxi to take you to one of the outer buroughs at a peak hour...wont happen. Cars like the prius and escape make the most logical choices. its almost sillt to think of a gas guzzling v8 to be used to ferry people around on roads where you cant get above 30-40 MPH.
