I apologize for the incident that happened to your friend in Harar. However, the guy is not a representative of the society in Harar. You have to look into the possibility that he might have had mental issue or drug problems, or perhaps combination of the two. Out of the many tourists around the world, some are bound to get in trouble, including in western countries... ranging anywhere from getting mugged, raped to murdered. Aug 26th 2009 7:26PM You must visit the walled city of harar. It is the spiritual city of the Muslims of Ethiopia. UNESCO awarded Harar with the "Cities for peace" award. Harar is also registered by UNESCO in the world heritage list. Friendly people and hyenas. I live in Harar. you can email me if you have questions.
